i was a mechanic long before the wife and i ever met. at the time i had tools and boxes scattered around, at work, in my service truck, back of my pickup, and more stuff stored in my moms garage. (toolboxes and harley)

my mom decided to sell her house and at about the same time we were looking to buy as well. it was a mad scramble moving stuff around, finding a place to store stuff temporarily.
once we got moved into our house, her words were "wow, at least you have room for all your stuff in the garage, it's plenty big enough" a 19x22 is NOT "big enough".

even i didnt realize how much stuff (tools) i really had accumulated over the years, until it was all in the same place !
i had made several purges of leftover parts, from both my bronco's, and unwanted stuff from my moms house.

since we moved in she's bought several tools (as gifts) for me, that i never would have went out and bought for myself.
one of her 1st gifts to me was a welding hood

i dont try to sneak anything past her, i buy small stuff with scrap money i get, or with quarterly gift cards from work. anything else i run it by her 1st.
in the long run it's not worth it to me.

her decorating, DIY, and yardscaping ideas usually lead to a tool purchase.

I recently upgraded my box from a 26" Craftsman to a 56" HF. Wife was gone last weekend when I did it. Now on day 7 and she finally said "I can't open the drawer to get a screwdriver. Why did you lock it?"

The HF has the latches you have to activate vs the CM that was just pull it open. Plus all new screwdriver organizer. And I showed her the latch and not a word she just needed the screwdriver. Keep in mind she parks right next to it everyday. And she still thinks I just locked it and hasn't said anything about getting a new box!

Wondering how many shoes she wears that I think are the same vs completely different...or purses....or clothes...

My wife buys most of my tools for me.

My wife never says a word about the tools that are bought for the Tractor business, but she always says something when I want to buy tools for the home shop. She always says why do you need tools here when the business is 5 miles away and you can just go there to work or bring home what you need. She don't get it, I never say anything about the 30 plus pair of boots she has or the dozen saddles in the barn, or all the horses she has.WOMEN DONT GET IT.

My wife may or may not notice, but I tend to show her every new arrival, just sharing my enjoyment of it with her. She nods dutifully, "that's nice baby, what is it?".

Same here. My wife also asks, "What does it do? What do you make with it?".

My wife noticed my new bench grinder mounted on my workbench. I think the bright color attracted her to it. I told her what it was and she said "oh" and that was it.

Lately all of my purchases (torch with full size welding tanks, Branick strut compressor, COATS tire changer, wheels, etc,) have been too big to hide. I do all the maintenance on our cars and those of her folks so she gets that I need tools. She just wants to know that I'll use them and that it will save us money in the long run - which it always does. Anyway if she asks I'll tell her the price on things but she typically doesn't. I also order a ton of stuff online and the only thing she'll complain about is the number of boxes. She's definitely a keeper!

This is from last weekends job. Struts for three cars. I finally got to use my latest Craigslist tool purchases too.
