Does anyone else have the same problem I do when they go to the garage?

This is not meant as a joke, but when I
go out to the garage, I almost immediately
have to go back in to the house for a
number 2.

When I get that urge I just walk over to the garage bathroom that I remodeled back in 2012 or so:).

I’m not sure if it’s the smells, or the
anxiousness to get going on something
or maybe the exercise from the 75ft. walk
from the house to the garage or what.

So this happens to me so often I decided to do a Google search on it and found your post, it’s definitely not an anxiety thing because I have great pleasure in working on my car, so I am not sure why it happens

The thought of using air tools excites me. 🤷

Dang... depending on what and how much I eat I can go 2-4 times a day. Even with eating a higher fiber diet

You're supposed to leave the trees behind the building, so you just go around back. That's what I did anyways. I have a 300ft walk and currently questioning why I didn't just put the two shops on one side.

Not going to the garage, but jury duty does this for me. Obviously anxiety knowing I’ll be trapped in a courtroom for a couple of hours at a time. And it’s not like I’ll be able to just raise my hand and asked to be excused for a few minutes, or at least I’ve never seen anyone do that!

@Hephaestus29 How is it working out for you. Hope it has improved you’ve had a couple of years to work out the kinks. For me between my first and third cup of coffee I’ve probably gone twice 💩💩but then good for the day. But enough about me how are you progressing.

Did you happen to be on any antibiotics 3.5 years ago? I only ask because some antibiotics can play hell on your digestive system. Some can even damage your intestines.
Been on Bactrim and acyclovair for over fours years. Immune system killed off from chemo. My cd4 count just topped the min for me to quit. Doc’s concern now is weight loss unexplained. I’m losing 4 pounds a month and have been for over a year, next step is scopes from both ends. Is it the med’s, nobody knows.

LOL

I looked up nervous stomach, they are
calling it IBS now. I do seem to have
some of those same issues.

I’m 52, DO NOT SMOKE, and rarely ever
drink any caffeine. These issues started
about 3.5 years ago I guess.

I take fiber regularly and try to eat a salad
every day. It’s extremely easy to get out
of whack.
Are you on any meds?? Metformin for type 2 diabetes had me sticking close to the crapper all day, finally had to tell the doc no more, i'd rather die. I swear it took nearly a year to get it cleared out of my system. I take Jardiance now, which doesn't cause nearly as many issues, plus it keeps my A1C on track better.

Bottom line: I need plenty of water and fiber or I’ll get backed up but, I’m still not sure why I have to go number 2 every time I go to the garage.

If you have a documented medical need the construction and installation of a full blown restroom should be a deductible expense.

Going out to the shop is like the Toilet Time Burmuda Triangle for me.

Been a running joke with my wife for 20 years now at two different homes. It's unusual if it doesn't happen.

Makes no sense to me. I have an active job with long 12 hour shifts where I'm outside half the time. No problem.

Go out to the bush hunting or offroading/snowmobiling, no problem.

Glad I'm not the only one.

I can already see the TV commercial: do you suffer from "garage projects anxiety/excitement?" do you consume water/coffee as one of the 1st things you do after rising? do you have to walk any distance from the house to your garage/shop? does your shop/garage not have full bathroom facilities? Then you to, may suffer from GBS, Garage Bowel Syndrone. GBS is very common among those whose main daily goal is to get into the garage/shop early, and spend most of the day in that environment.

Join with others who deal with GBS daily to understand that you are normal, functioning well, and simply have to deal with the fact that the basics of our bodies means the job cannot be completed until the "paperwork" with the white roll is done. A way to enjoy your GBS is to stock the restroom with garage related, vehicle related, projects related literature to inspire your day after the important work is done.

I just think it's like walking a dog? You exercise him a bit and he WILL poop!

I experienced something similar when I was in grad school. My lab was in the basement of an old hospital. A trip to the bathroom required leaving the secured department, crossing the hall, swiping my ID to enter a secured area, and then down the hall to the bathroom. Both areas were secured because even though it was a basement, there were access doors to the outside in a metro area. Anyone off the street could've walked in at anytime and they often did.
Most of my classes were on the other campus of the same university, about a mile away. I'd be in classes, then walk or ride the bus to the medical campus to start my lab work, and I'd feel the urge. The worst part was that bathroom was only a 2-holer and there were a lot of people. It was also very warm in the bathroom. I never understood it, but it was predictable.

It's a "metaphysical" thing!

To be more specific- from Britannica

The very unclear position called epiphenomenalism is sometimes categorized as a form of psychophysical dualism according to which the body affects the mind but the mind does not affect the body. Thus, when a human being wills a certain bodily movement and that movement occurs, the movement is caused entirely by prior physical states of the body. The corresponding act of will, however, is also caused by prior physical states. As a result, the act of will seems to its subject to be the cause of the movement. It is, however, probably better to think of epiphenomenalism not as a form of psychophysical dualism but as a form of property dualism according to which both mental events (the gain or loss of a mental property) and physical events (the gain or loss of a physical property) are entirely caused by physical events. Partly because few philosophers have thought of themselves as epiphenomenalists, it is difficult to categorize that view under any familiar type of philosophical theory of mind.

I think it's "moving"!!

Few years too late here, but I always found this to be the case when ever I enter my garage. I thought it was always just bad timing, even thought just before leaving my house to go into my garage (not connected unfortunately) that I didn’t have to go #2. But I looked it up and I believe I found a reason. This is just my hypothesis, but it might be the same reason for you as well. My favorite place at home is the garage. Even though it’s messy, I love the smell of gas and oil and I love tinkering. And it’s cozy in here, in a dirty, industrial kind of way. And every time I enter I always get a shiver down my spine due to a dopamine release and euphoria of being in my favorite spot, and a sense of relaxation because I’m in my own space. And according to a google search, such quick spikes in euphoria as well as relaxation, stimulates the whole body. Including the digestive tract. So your body thinks it’s time to poop.

I keep a number two Phillips almost everywhere, so that's never a problem for me. :D

My dad always had this issue. I put a poop room in my garage when I built it.

Does anyone have this issue when visiting a big box hardware store? Asking for a friend......
