Hi Guys

Just wondering if anyone owns or has seen deadblows like these:
n625182002_1570375_7276.jpg

Here is my story from another post:

Unfortunately I have no idea who the manafacturer is. All they say on them is "Calgary, AB". I looked for these for 2 years before i found these.

When I first got into the trade two older technicians had these. Over the years they held up way better than the Mac/Snap-on/SK dead-blows in the shop, which would split etc. However, they had gotten them from a travelling salesman who came to the shop. As I said, there are no markings and after lots and lots of googling I gave up looking for them.

Over 2 years later I stumbled across these in my local "House of Tools" (Canada only) and bought one in every size. They were pricey (over $100 for the big one) but worth every penny. They've been beating the ends of shafts and stuff for years and barely have a mark on them.

Don't know where you'd find them in the U.S.A though.

If I take macros tomorrow will you guys please help me try and find a source or some reference to them? It's driving me nuts! They're great hammers and I wanna show you guys.

I will send 1 of mine out to a senior member to use, foc, if they will just pay the return shipping eventually.

Preferably someone Candian and someone who uses a dead blow a lot.

Thanks in advance guys!

Are they possibly older style Trusty Cook?
http://www.trustycook.com/products_hammers.htm

Yours remind me of the "sledge head" model they make: http://www.trustycook.com/store/softface.asp?style=sledge

Cool video about the company and their OEM work; according them, they are the original developer of the dead blow/shot filled hammer in the 70s:
http://www.trustycook.com/about_news_gerrydick.htm

According to the video they make the hammers for: Armstrong, Matco, Estwing, and Snap-On; plus, their own brand you can buy from their website directly and gov't contracts as well...

billymade, try to use photobucket, imageshack, flickr, or any other free photo host, or even upload it directly to GJ, instead of hot-linking.

Anyways, I recently bought a Stanley Compo-Cast - same design, but I cannot yet determine how great the quality is.

I got a 3 lb Harbor Freight orange dead blow and it seems to work fairly well; one of the few tools from HF that I like ..

The last time that I hit my finger with a cheap dead blow hammer, it hurt just as much as the time that I hit it with the Snap-On dead blow hammer. After that I came to the conclusion that they are both just as good at hitting my finger, and hurting the same.. :lol_hitti

I wonder if they were related to this guy at all? http://www.ecodieselcanada.com/?s=1&p=10

Thanks billymade!!:) I knew one of you guys would get it and I could've guessed it would be you! You are the Master of the Universe where links are concerned.

They were designed by an actual end-user, now I know why they're so good!

Thanks again!

Troy looks forward to building a Lister-type electrical power generator with waste heat recovery for domestic hot water and shop heat. Having an in-house machine shop will prove to be valuable in fabricating Lister-type engine genset with heat exchange.

This sounds like something we could all get on board with!

My son is the owner of Impact Poly Hammers. He attempted to post on this thread but was unable to make it work so I'll give it a try. For information on Impact Poly Hammers, go to www.Ecodieselcanada.com. Under products, click on "Dead Blow"

I like trying to find obscure stuff for people! I think it is also especially cool when a vendor ends up posting and giving us access to them and giving us more info! :)

Here is a direct link to the hammers in question:

Glad to have you! I took a look at the site, and well, it could use a bit of proofreading.

For example, They are used extensively by heavey equipment mechanics, hydralic assembly personel and high rise construction crews across Canada.
has three errors. Another two are skeliton and laminants.

For everyone asking about where to buy these in the US, read this: As we currently do not have any USA distribution, if you are from the USA and would like to try out one or more of our incredibly durrable dead blow hammers for yourself, please feel free to contact us directly and we will be more than happy to fix you up.

I bet I could stump you! I still haven't found a non-special-order source for Grip-On ErgoGrip pliers. The quotes I keep receiving are for $116 for two, whereas they're sold for $35 by Gray Tools in Canada.

Thank you for your inquiry. Impact Poly Hammers has not in the past advertised or had a web site for it's products. That link to Eco Diesel was put together only yesterday after, by chance, we came across garfunkle's inquiry of December 08 on The Garage Journal Board.
And you are right stuey, some/lots of improvement is need to the information on the link. I will see that improvements are made forthwith. My son is a much better hammer maker than he is a writer or speller.
The reason Impact has not advertised is that there has been a major production problem at the Polymer plants in Calgary. Calgary, Alberta, Canada is an oil and gas boom city of over 1 million people where there has been a major shortage of labour and the plants give priority to the oil industry often pushing hammer pouring to the back burner.
For the past five years, Impact has barely been able to supply product for the existing high end tool stores in Western Canada which have been loyal customers for many years.
For your information, the hammer inserts are manufactured at Impact's shop located at Diamond City, Alberta. Diamond City is located just north of Lethbridge and about 100 miles south east of Calgary. Inserts are transported to Calgary where one polymer plant pours the sledges and the other plant pours the hand held hammers.
And yes, I'm the old retired guy that cuts all the steel for the inserts and "the boss" welds them up. I can assure you those inserts are over built and that's the reason Impact hammers out lasts and out perform the competition. When you compare a Stanley insert to an Impact insert it's a joke - like comparing a Caterpillar to a tin can. Some competitors use plastic inserts - goo ruck!
A good dead blow has a well constructed insert. The end caps must be of quality that will not indent with use. If that happens, the polymer will separate from the cap and before long you will need a new hammer. You will not indent an Impact Poly Hammer end cap with normal use. Warranty claims at Impact are almost nil.
This product shortage could be coming to an end. Cracks are appearing in the Calgary economy and the labour shortage may be a thing of the past. We are getting better production from the polymer plants at this time and, for the first time in years, I see a small inventory of hammers.
Because Impact now has some additional product and there are no dealers in the US to protect, we are prepared to sell hammers direct to individuals who place orders. With the Canadian dollar at around $US.82 cents today, there will be additional savings for Americans. Impact is price competitive with the competition here in Canada.

Impact Poly Hammers can be contacted;

What is the protrusion on the end of the hammer head. Is it a steel insert? And what is the purpose? Just curious as I have a few deadblows but I have not seen any designed that way.

I wonder what kind of pricing & shiping to the US? Also what sizes are available? Perhaps we could open the US market with a group purchase.

Right on DeadBlowdad and Son!!
I too come from a family business (the whole family, mom, dad, two older brothers and I) - I am currently taking a long leave of absence because it's very , umm:headscrat difficult and challenging to work with your family. But when you can make it work, and produce a quality product together with your family - there is nothing better:) But this is a nice story, how you spotted garfunkles inquiry, your son made a website that billmade found, all of these awesome GJ members are now going to start buying some of these kickass hammers - and there you have it, you will soon be on your way to being part of a very succsessful company! Much luck to both you and your son!! I can't wait to put some of these hammers to work:bounce::thumbup::beer:

I am curious about pricing, if you don't mind posting them on a forum....rather than you getting a bunch of calls asking the same thing.

This thread is another example of why GJ rocks. I made one quick enquiry, about something I've wondered about for years, and look at the response!

I hope anyone who buys some of these hammers will be as impressed with them as I am.

Thanks to Dead Blow Dad for the lengthy responses and info. Just one question: As your number 1 promoter (on here anyway....) do I get a good deal on one of those sledges you mentioned....? :) JK, I think your product is absolutely worth the money.

The protrusion on the end of all Impact Poly Hammers - so you can stand them up right. It also serves as a third face. In a tight spot where swinging is impossible, you can vertically stomp the work. The tubing used on these hammers has sufficient strength to with stand this type of use. Also, the four smallest hammers have holes at the end of the handle so the can be hung on the back stop of your work bench.

I'm sure the boss will work something for you if this develops into some sales. He should be sensitive to a poster from Saskatoon, after all he was born at St Pauls hospital, Saskatoon, Sk. back in 64. I know this for sure, I was there.
As for pricing, I believe he's worked something out for Garage Journal posters from the US but so far hasn't been willing to post it on this form. Interested customers should contact Impact directly.

Anyone else taken the plunge on these yet? Just sent off funds for a set the other day, can't wait to get them and try them out. Just curious if anyone else has done so and what you thought of them.

Went to two seperate "House of Tools" locations and all they had in stock were the 14oz and 20oz hammers which I snatched up. AMAZING hammers. I have yet to see the larger hammers for sale :( Maybe you guys are buying them all up!
