I would but the words show up as $$##!!!!??)(09++&$$$ instead of what you type. I would let you know in a PM but then I would have to go to banned camp also..... It is different on the dark side and more geared to tools. The first name is the same but the last is a common word at the end of a newspaper name....

I need to duck now.....

I don't know why anyone who would buy Harbor Freight tools would post on Garage Journal anyway. They obviously are just interested in cheap so why the interest in a tools related forum where people are passionate about tools?

Hard to be passionate about ChiCom tools that smell like left over Kung Pao chicken.

I'll duck now too.

Threads in which people ask about inactive members ALWAYS do what this one has done. Just no way around it. When I started a post about LoneGunman a couple months back, the same thing happened.

There are ways around banned words. Here is an example...

g@zette

If you don't like a forum, don't participate. There is no reason for forum bashing threads.

I like several forums, this one included.

for those that have asked about me thanks for your concerns. that said.....what has been posted in this thread about me is true, except for elroy's crack about him being a smart ***. i have lost a club brother and personal friend. i was asked to leave my employment and i have relocated to alton illinois (a move i should have made years ago).i am currently working at a chopper shop as a mechanic and stretching frames. as far as my posting here.......the shift in this board along with the constant trolling of harbor frieght bs has worn me out. i have also found that all of a sudden i could not load pages and was constantly being redirected to the front page. all of these thing makes me to believe i'm not welcome here anymore. i discussed this with bull in a PM and he said that he would reply to me when he could......that was like 3 months ago. best wishes to all of the friends i have made here and no comment to the rest......

A mature, sensible outlook. Not everyone shares it, though. Well, people here seem to, since there are never any site-bashing threads. Can't say the same for other corners of the net. :lol_hitti

krusty, as far as the real stuff in life that matters, I'm sorry for what you are going through. Death hits us all.

As for the issue about your being redirected to certain pages, this is the first I've ever heard of it. If you wrote me about it before, I don't remember it... But, I do remember our last PM exchanges a few months back. :headscrat

Post here, post there, whatever makes you happy based on the content and the company.

Wow, I didn't even know there was a dark side. I just had a look, I see most use the same user name here as they do there... I wonder if I have a twin there I don't know about

Many of us are passionate about good a good value. A lot of stuff at HF is still a good value. A lot of people equate brand names and high price with quality and that's simply not the case. On another note, Garage Journal doesn't present itself as a "tool forum". Its a fourm about garages, their make up, and the things in them. Tools are only a part of that...

Never confuse a passion for tools with a passion for using tools. They are, actually, two different things.
And yes - I came here about the garages - not about the tools.
Having said that - I apologize for continuing the thread derailment. Not that I started it - but I am now guilty of loosening the rails down the track. :lol_hitti

I was wondering about some of the old members just this week! I do see a lot of new members, but some of them only have a one or two post count, only long enough to sell something and not come back;at least the old members had a very high post count, that they could add ideas to many good discussions.

No
But from my observations the Gerneral Tool forum is the busiest of all the Forums. As far as tools go, use what you want.

Like them or hate them, the HF tool threads have brought many new eyes to this site.

Membership on a forum always runs its course as the questions all seem to be repeats and tastes change. If the first thought you have upon reading a question is " Do a search, it's been covered a zillion times already!", time to step back. If the second thought you have is to disparage the poster for whatever reason, please rein it in. Seems like everything on the internet has a definite bell curve to it. GJ is still rising and I still enjoy it.

he used to be active here and has not been around for some time. i have a question i would like to ask him. i sent him an email but i received no response. anyone have info on him?

Sorry, I accidentally erased it. RRLLL (whatever it is) told me about the thread here.

Ignorant, retarded posts like this are one of the main reasons I quit showing up. I've spent almost $4k on snap-on tools this year (ALL tools, no box or anything), so I'm no hf poster boy. I do however, have hf tools that have been working on $20 million+ business jets for nine years, and still get the job done, day after day. Are they as good as their Snap-On counterparts? Of course not, I would never claim that. Do they get the same job done? Yep.

When I can use them professionally for that long (and there are many others here that have used them professionally for WAY more years than me), it seems pretty stupid to tell a home owner that they need to buy a snap-on wrench that costs 10x what the entire hf set did, just to tighten a hose on a damn sink once a year.

I had a major issue with one user on here, due to this very reason, although it seems from what I read, they aren't around any more.

This board is about helping people, whether it's a professional mechanic, or a home owner that needs help on how to replace a toilet. Not everybody here is a mechanic, or regular tool user, and certainly not everybody on here needs the best of tools.

It is precisely because of your balanced, professional perspective that it is in the board's best interests for you to stay.

I took a few months off from here to start a Mustang resto, and cause I had an explosion of side work to come back to find it radically changed. I too wondered where our staple people had gone too.

Good to see you back for moment:) Was it Mickey O? I actually miss that guy's posts. I like the mix of everyone. Sorry to see that Merkava is gone too. He got some good discussions going as well.

So far from the truth it's not even funny and honestly that "elitist" attitude is what has driven many folks away from here.

I come on here to read/ask about home improvement, garage building, etc. I have most all the tools I need in my home "shop" at this point, so if I spend $100 on tools in a year at this point I would be surprised.

As far as if it's a $10 Harbor Freight wrench set or a $500 Snap On one, I could give a flying fawk as long as the tool gets the job done. Some of my more favorite tools are "Chicom junk" that I have been using for 15-20 years.

My Dad has been a mechanic (millwright) at an OSB mill for almost 30 years and I could count all the tool truck tools he owns with just my fingers. Pretty much all his tools are Craftsman or Harbor Freight.

like many others have said its about the garage as a whole, not just the tools. that why there are sections for electrical, floors, and threads on all matter of things garage related.

as for the bashing, it turns me off, i dont like buying imported tools, but im also a college student, i simply cannot afford to spend money on snap-on, nor do i have the time to hit pawns or auctions. so some tools from hf will have to do for now.

it seems as though many here forget that everyone starts somewhere, and most cannot afford to spend the thousands of dollars on truck tools as they start out into their forray of tools. i have hf tools, craftsman, channel lock, mac and snap on tools at home, but i dont wrench for a living, nor am i planning to. my tools are to work on my cars and trucks, i doubt i will wear out sockets or break many wrenches, but that doesnt mean i dont want to buy truck tools if the price it right.

people need to calm down about hf and truck tools, each side has their positives, a cost-benefit analysis so to speak, and each their detractors. so instead of ******* matches how about we try to give real, valuable, meaningful information in threads, if all you have to say is snap-on is better, or hf has the same thing for cheaper, just think it and then move on. its not hard and while this may be a public access forum, it is not public domain and the creator/owners wishes for conduct should be observed.

now as far as members of the "lost boys" im glad to see some of them here again, but i understand why some may feel the need to leave. just good to know things are okay with them

Amen, that is the reason why I started coming here. It seems that sometimes we get away from that basic concept.
