I was wondering if when you worked someplace sketchy that you took your tools home daily. I do. When i first started i wanted a nice box to be there but now im glad my cart i ordered was back ordered. I found out today that they dont even put a pad lock on the bay doors overnight. I have already inquired about an alarm and at least they have that, but untill i can make the changes that are necessary, i will not leave a single tool.
When working for a dealer, big boxes usually stayed at the dealership, and were locked at the end of the day, and often while on a test drive or during noon break.. When on field service jobs; I use smaller carry boxes, and am very particular where I set them.. They usually, but not always, get loaded at the end of the day. If you have any gut feelings ,, load them....
Keep in mind that theft can happen in broad daylite when customers and co-workers can walk off with stuff.. How about the co-workers who "borrow" tools and do not return them? Locks and rules are two good things to maintain wherever you work.. USE or Lose.. The boxes in my home shop get closed, but seldom locked... A Security breach out here ?? Possible, but no fool has tried it yet.. Remember to lock your vehicle when your tools are inside...
