There is only 1 small Snap on Truck in Vienna, Austria and I was quite surprised when I saw it the first time standing on the Infield of the Salzburg Racing Curcuit. After some shocking prices and a tiny purchase I asked if they had a catalog and was quite surprised that it was for free :D.

The first time I stepped onto a snap on truck and bought something was around 10 years ago and I asked if I could have a catalog. He gave me one, but the next time I was on and payed off my account I looked at the invoice and there was a charge labeled "Misc" I asked what it was for and he said it was for the catalog I wanted... :shocking:

That was the last time I bought from him and shortly after that he went under...no mystery there.

My current dealer will only give you one if you spend a sum of money with him.

nope, never a SO one, I've asked repeatedly and they say they are out more are on order, I've had this dealer for almost a year now and asked since the first day and still nothing. I got to a point that I don't ask any more cause the dealer always has some excuse. Matco I always get a catalogue and a current flyer, I don't even have to ask. As for paying for a catalogue, fat chance you want me to buy your tools you give me the catalogue for free.

I had a similar thing. Was helping out a friend at his shop when the Snap-on dealer turned up. Bought about £100-worth of tools and asked for a catalogue too. He gave me one. When i stepped off the van and looked at my invoice he'd charged me for it. I stepped back on the van and threw it at him.

I'm surprised that more dealers don't eat the cost of the catalog. Honestly, if I thought there was a good chance of building my customer base and keeping them spending, I would hand them out like candy to serious individuals.

Dealers don't pay for catalogues, Snap-on provides them for free. They're the only free thing supplied by Snap-on to their dealer network.

Have never (and never would) paid for a SO catalog. Used to get a price list as well from my old dealer.

Not a fan of their website, quite poor for such a large company.

Mac Tools website is even worse. It's like they don't want you to find what you are looking for.

At least you can say the Snapon one is pretty complete. Matco is lacking MANY things to kinda make you use the truck. The problem is the truck doesnt come by my house or place of employment.

my SO guy gives me a catalogue and a G@S catalogue for free. He is an Industrial guy supplies companies and individuals. I am an occasional buyer and he comes into where I work when I call him for something. The MAC guy also gives me a catalogue, he is an Auto guy so he cannot come into our facility so when I want something from him I call him and I meet him at one of the local garages. I would not pay $5 for a catalogue and I agree both websites are terrible.

New Snap-on guy showed up two months ago. I just looked at my receipts. My "free" catalog just cost me A LOT of money.:shocking::sad:

This is something my coworkers remind me of almost daily, just like the "free" tv I won from him in a raffle.

When Snap On has a new catalog my dealer hands me a new catalog along with the new price list.....Free, no charge. The same with my Matco Dealer and Cornwell Dealer. I have an old SK catalog thats about 15 years old from my SK dealer. As soon as SK has a catalog I will have that also....Also free. Wright tools sent me a Catalog CD with tools only no price list. The last MAC tools catalog I got had a black cover from at least 13 years ago...No charge. My job gets a Grainger catalog in the mail, when ever a new one comes out....Free. I used to get a Craftsman Industrial Catalog once a year that looked just like the Snap On catalog free. I also got a NAPA tools catalog 3 years ago no charge.

I am not a mechanic but do all I can at home and I like to buy good tools. I stopped a snap on guy at one of his stops once and introduced myself, looked around and he handed me two catalogs (he reps more than snap on) as I was walking off the truck.

Well after flipping through it about a hundred times, I have since contacted him several different times and made purchases. They are nice!

A good dealer will give free catalogs..because he knows you will buy something. Also he can afford to give them away. But I also support my local Snap-on dealer....He's trying to make a living also.But......

If I buy a tool from him w/o asking the price and I dont think its fair or decent I will give it back....Im trying to make a living also.

Since we are on the subject what does RWD mean with Snap - ON ????

It's basically a supplemental products division of Snap-On, a catalog of third party products and special application tools made by others but available through Snap-On's distribution network.

It's primarily a collection of Lisle, OTC, Gearwrench, Knipex, KD Tools, IR, EZ Red, Fluke, Dewalt, and misc. shop accessories. It's not all inclusive of those brands but it is honestly a pretty good assortment of a number of specialty tools or new tools that you likely wouldn't discover otherwise.

All the truck dealers in my town will only give you a catalog only if you're a shop working customer on their route. If you're Joe Public off the street, the dealer will be conveniently out of them.
