I found a NIP S-K 3/8” drive Frankenstein ratchet. IMG_1396.jpegIMG_1398.jpeg
WD40 was suggested by GJ member Mintgrun to remove the price tag residue and it worked perfectly. It now is hanging in the S-K area below the oilers. IMG_1542.jpeg
I had been gradually filling up this S-K repainted 3/8” drive metric socket rack.IMG_0953.jpeg
I finally found the 13mm socket to complete the rack.IMG_1403.jpegIMG_1446.jpeg
It has now been added to the S-K set display. IMG_1541.jpeg
This smaller completed postwar 1/2” drive set got moved to the basement as well.IMG_1543.jpeg
I cleaned up this Craftsman hose nozzle found at a Berkeley estate sale. It is ready to move to the basement with the others.IMG_1448.jpeg

:+1: to that.

I have cans of WD40 in various places in my garage for uses like that. Not for lubrication so much as for its convenient spray application for cleaning off adhesive residue like that or for removing grease or bits of wet enamel paint from my hands. I also keep a roll of paper towels right next to my workbench

I cleared out some space in a basement cabinet and added some prewar sets.. This area is still a work in progress. IMG_8680.jpegIMG_4477.jpegIMG_4476.jpegIMG_4478.jpeg
This area to the left now holds some recently completed early 1/2” and 3/8” drive postwar sets.IMG_4479.jpeg
I added some monkey wrenches found over the summer to the others.IMG_4480.jpeg

Looks great, Don!

A random thought: print out couple of pages from catalogs or advertisement of SK (preferably using color printer) and cover the walls of the cabinet from inside?

Thank you!
Thank you!
Thank you!

What an Awesome Collection of Tools
I just went through the entire thread

Some of your sets remind me of my teen years using dads tools and working on my bicycles and motorcycles
dad had some SK and craftsman

when ever we went to Sears we would get a popcorn walk through the tool department

I think 5 or 6 of my friends had the Montgomery Wards blue mold sets - I’ve forgotten about those until I saw the pics and the logo on the lid

I’ve Completely enjoyed reading and looking at all the wonderful tools you have rescued

Don, I've long suspected that your house sits atop an old missile silo and that's where you keep all the Barcalo inventory. :D Looking good, sir!
Thanks, guys.
Bill, I’m glad you mentioned Barcalo. I recently added this prewar set in a metal box to the basement. I received it from a collector on Tool talk who was kind enough to pass it along to me. I’ve never seen another like it.IMG_4568.jpegIMG_4569.jpegIMG_4570.jpegIMG_4571.jpeg
It‘s now in Grandpa Al’s toolbox with lots of other Barcalo toolsets.IMG_4574.jpeg

I finally completed this Thorsen metric 3/8” drive set I found over the summer. I added it to the basement Thorsen yesterday.

Due to my unfortunate habit of picking up any perfect handle screwdriver I see at sales I ran out of space on my display. IMG_9243.jpegThe solution was quite simple, add another row of holes to the board.IMG_5231.jpegIMG_5230.jpeg
I found a wood box auger bit set at a recent estate sale. IMG_5242.jpegIMG_5241.jpeg80% of the bits were Irwin so I replaced the off brands with Irwin spares and added it to the other auger bit area.IMG_5395.jpeg

I found a rusty and crusty pump oiler at a recent estate sale. I cleaned off the top enough to see that it was an early Plews.IMG_5264.jpeg
I removed the rust from the reservoir section and the crust from the pump part. IMG_5307.jpegIMG_5308.jpeg
And straightened the spout in my little wood vise. IMG_5310.jpeg
I added it to the Navy box BK sent me since there was such a close resemblance to the oiler in the Navy NAF catalog.IMG_5417.jpegIMG_5418.jpegIMG_5321.jpeg

Look at the little Skivvy Wavers! Sure at some point a Supply Officer had his feet on a desk, watching flagmen out the window from the A/C office, thumbing through the catalog
and had a chuckle. Great ad!

Thanks. Here are the Craftsman and Dunlap nozzles side by side. IMG_1545.jpegWhoever made the unmarked nozzle on the right probably supplied the Craftsman marked one to Sears. IMG_1546.jpeg
The collection. IMG_1544.jpeg

I just stumbled on this post !

I have GIVEN UP on all the "new fangled" watering nozzles and gone back to the old standby brass nozzle. Add a 1/4 turn shut off in front of it (so you don't have to change the spray pattern to shut it off and you can switch to a sprinkler without going back to the faucet) and it is perfect !

I added a recent S-K torque wrench find to the S-K area. IMG_5349.jpegIMG_5350.jpegIMG_5448.jpeg
Using a tip from WisJim, I hung some copper pipe I used as a closet pole to the floor joists. Perfect for hanging braces.IMG_5459.jpeg
This #1105 S-K hex set was a recent arrival. IMG_5443.jpegIMG_5445.jpegIMG_9277.jpeg
I added it to the prewar S-K shelf. IMG_5457.jpeg

I received this nice early Christmas present from misterbill in the mail on Tuesday. It’s a 4055R ”Double Grip” 5 piece DOE set complete with holder. After a couple of pictures, I wasted no time adding it to the other sets living in Grandpa Al’s toolbox. IMG_5634.jpegIMG_5635.jpegIMG_5636.jpegIMG_9467.jpegIMG_9466.jpegAdded to the other Barcalo wrench sets. IMG_5637.jpeg
Relocated to the toolbox.IMG_5641.jpeg
Thanks for the sending the excellent and unexpected addition to the Barcalo display, Bill!
Merry Christmas.

Great idea! I inherited some old garden tools when the in-laws passed away, and one of those brass jobs was in the mix. I've found the solid brass nozzles to be so nice to use. Perfect other than the add-on off valve. Now I'm on the lookout for one of those.

At my annual family gathering on Christmas Day, I was very surprised to receive this Eagle oiler from my nephew during the gift exchange. I wasn’t even aware that he knew about my fascination with old tools. It turned out that he had found it at an antique store in Martinez, CA. IMG_5679.jpegIMG_5677.jpegIMG_5676.jpeg
I gave it a position of honor in the display next to two other Eagle oilers. IMG_5740.jpegIMG_5737.jpeg

On Christmas, my son in law sent me some pictures of tools that were up for grabs in a barn at the horse ranch where his parents had lived and worked for many decades. The ranch was being sold and his parents were moving. Among the pictures were these of a dirty old bench top drill press. 1000012317.jpeg1000012316.jpeg
I was not in the market for another drill press, even a free one, but when I saw it in person I didn’t want to think of it being thrown in a dumpster and scrapped. When I gave it a quick test it ran perfectly and I didn’t detect any play. With some difficulty I got it unbolted from the bench and after I backed our car into the barn my strong son in law loaded it up. IMG_5743.jpeg
After getting it home I realized that there was no way for me to remove it from the car due to the weight of the whole thing. GJ member Outlaw suggested disassembly which worked out perfectly. IMG_5759.jpegIMG_5760.jpeg
Even disassembled each piece was still pretty heavy. After doing some research on the GJ, I determined that it was a Delta made in 1945. I decided to just clean it up while keeping as much of the remaining paint as possible. IMG_5745.jpegIMG_5744.jpegIMG_5987.jpegIMG_5988.jpegIMG_5998.jpeg
continued below, reached the picture loading limit.

Due to a minor catastrophe while putting the unit in place I found it necessary to modify the perfect handle screwdriver display to make everything fit.
IMG_6005.jpeg
Everything back in place. After installing a new plug, the machine was running when this picture was taken IMG_6009.jpeg
Thanks to my family for all the help and inspiration.

Nice save! I especially like the linkage for the on/off switch. Pretty cool! Is that OEM or an add-on?
I found a replacement grommet in the garage and installed the on/off switch linkage.

I spotted the photo during a visit to an old friends shop. It was taken in the parking area of our apartments in Richmond In the early ‘70s. Another blurry picture of my then girlfriend’s Plum Crazy ‘57 next to the same friend’s Suzuki taken at a former riding area in Point Richmond.IMG_5958.jpeg
