Did any of you bother to sue the guys who did this to you, or are you letting them think this is normal?
Partial blame goes to those who accept unprofessional breach of contract.
Many people are self employed because they are too unreliable to keep a regular job.
Let's try to make them out of business or up to the job.
Seriously? If someone doesn't do what they say they will, I'm partially to blame? That makes no sense.
Is it my job to educate a 'professional' on how to properly run a business? I don't think so.
Most of the guys who do this kind of stuff, just don't care. They are looking for the highest payout. If a better job comes along, you go to the bottom of the list.
I've been to small claims court. Even if you get a judgement, good luck getting paid. The chances of getting anything substantial from someone who just didn't show up is pretty slim IMHO.
Your only real recourse is to slam them online and in person to get the word out to other future victims. I've been using Angie's List. I've had much better luck finding good people there. They have to be more accountable because there is constant feedback. The bottom feeders get identified very quickly.
If I'm being perfectly honest, I've had more bad contractors than good ones. I've hired at least 10 people over the last 2 years. Out of the 10, I'd probably call 3 of them back. In 2 cases I had to hire other people to come in and fix/finish things. I can't even count how many times I've been stood up for estimates. Nothing taking time off of work to meet a guy who never shows up.
There's a guy working at my house today. I contacted him in September. He was supposed to finish my job the first week of October. I have other work on hold until he finishes. I'd pretty much given up on ever seeing him. He literally showed up this morning out of the blue to start work. Would a simple phone call have killed this guy?
