Door opener help ! Pls

Legacy 850 sometimes both sensors are lit and it works fine, other times one is blinking red and the other is off
It will go up but not down unless u hold the button on the wall unit
Wires look ok but not 100 percent
Can I bypass these sensors ?
Is this a bad sensor ?

It sounds as though you might only need to tweak the alignment of the sensors.

^ This (above post) should be the first thing to evaluate. Red lights generally indicate one "eye" is not seeing the other. Clear any obstructions/spiderwebs from the eyes and clean them off.

My stupid "eyes" are up at the 16' ceiling height 4" apart from each other. Never had any trouble with them. No loose infants running around here to get hurt.

Your eyes aren't catching each other for some reason. Either off just a bit or I've seen it where the sun will interfere with the beam, door would close just fine until late afternoon when sun was full on it and then it would have issues closing. I moved the sensors back a few inches and solved that problem.

I replaced my opener a year or two ago, and the new one would sometimes malfunction like you described. It turned out at certain times of the day the sun was interfering with the sensor's operation. I took an old toilet paper tube and shoved it over the sensor to act as a sun shield, and it's been fine ever since.

I had a VERY SIMILAR situation several years ago. But for me it was a certain time of the year.
The door would not close normally when it was cold. I ignored the issue for over a year. When I finally decided to address it I bought new "eyes". And that was all it took to get the thing to work again.
How weird is that?
