I need to add an extra bell to my "Sunroom/Backyard patio area and I want to know is it as easy as tapping into the wires that go to my current bell to another bell?
It should be, most doorbells simply require a pushbutton connection and you can have more than one pushbutton connected to the same terminals.
However, check your doorbell as it may have a separate sets of terminals for front and back doors - usually the front door will go ding-dong and the rear will only go ding.
It can be wired in parallel with your existing bell but will probably need a larger transformer.
There should be no need for a larger transformer. One pushbutton or the other will ring the bell, it's the same amount of power either way.
I read the op question as adding another doorbell not just a button. In that case you would need a larger transformer.
normally the transformer supplied with the kit only has enough current to activate 1 chime, most cases you need a larger current transformer than what is supplied. ( think same voltage, more amps )
Yeah Im not sure where the second button came from. The OP asked about adding another chime.
I needed to have something in the garage, but didn't want to screw around with wires. so I bought this about four years ago.
