Drafting Compound Spiral for scroll plate

I'm designing a 4th axis for my CNC laser. While I could easily by a low quality three jaw chuck for work holding for $20, I decided I want to design my own. I'm planning on 3D printing it. It doesn't have to be super strong or precise. We are talking about laser engraving plastic cups and pens. Not a high precision part by any stretch of the imagination.

I have found several CAD models I could just print, but not any info on how to design. I'm actually interested in learning something new as part of the process. I'm having trouble finding a reference for how to draft the compound curve for the scroll plate that controls the jaws. I'm also interested in learning about the pitch angle of that spiral and how it affects the chuck.

Anyone have a good reference they could point me at?

I do have a copy of The Machinery's Handbook at home, but I'm on travel and will not be able to get to it for a couple of weeks.

I don't know anything much about such a manufacturing topic, but suggest you look at what is on offer from these two links that I have found for you.

Good luck with your endeavours.

PS: it maybe worth joining this Forum for such specialised help.

Thanks, that was where I started.
Lots of YouTube on how to actually manufacture other peoples plans. There are a good number of plans out there if I just wanted to make one. I’m trying to figure out the math and layout. Say I want do make a 1.75” scroll chuck for holding pens.
