I am about to change the rear differential fluid on my subaru and it requires a 13mm plug socket. Should I buy the socket or can I get away with using a 1/2" extension? Has anyone damaged these plugs when not using the correct tool?

As long as the extension isn't too sloppy use that. Done it before without any issues.

There are subarus everywhere around here. I've got 2 myself, so I'm always working on these things. I've always used 1/2" and never had any problems.

I took a piece of hexagonal bar in Chrome-moly steel, and milled a square on it.
