I used this idea, found it here. Mine has more sizes but same idea. Works great for me. You can get the plastic drawer cabinets cheep if you look hard enough. Menards has them on sale all the time. (if there is one near you)

Huot makes these "tool room" dispensing cabinets, one for letter, fraction, and number sizes. They pop up used on ebay every so often and I've seen two in the past six months at local auctions. They fit nicely under wall cabinets..

I have a 115pc index which works well for finding the bit I need, but I have multiples of some sizes and they just float around sort of organized in plastic divider boxes for now.

I have found lots of old removable pickup bedliners at bodyshops, since everybody around here gets the sprayon bedliners. I cut them up into drawer-size panels and stock drillbits and taps in them.

These cabinets are nice for small parts and bits, the drawers are removable to take on the go and they come in many configurations.

I wanted a cabinet for mine but the plastic blue cabinets I had were not deep enough for some of my bits. So I looked online and saw this one

Its a little deeper so it could take longer drills. I had my wife to get it for me for christmas. I really like it and it holds the majority of my bits. I have just a few of the bigger sizes so I am going to make something for them. Anyway I liked the shape of it. I want to make a rolling tool cart and put this on it.

Biggest problem arises in 2 areas:
1) Single of each size, or multiples
2) Storing sizes from 1/2" drill 12 " long to #80 X3/4" long or smaller.

Big range, and when you factor in stub drills, aircraft style drills, cobalt, TiN, hss, carbide, masonry, morse, SDS, ...oh well, you get the idea.

All depends on what you're doing. Think forstner bits, spade bits for woodworking, stub drills for lathe and mill, 12" (aircraft) long bits for deep hole drilling, carbide and SDS for masonry, the list goes on......

Try sharpening a #80 drill in a drill doctor ...and trust me when I say you need to keep more than a few in stock when drilling in 1/8 in steel or even aluminum. (Hint = a #80 is 0.0135" dia).

Drill index. Have a number of them. Only use is to grab when I'm going somewhere out of the shop.

wow, some good ideas, I have so manny drill bits. my father,grandfather, and wifes grandfathers bit are all stuff in my tool boxes. love to get them in order..
