Bought one in Sept. '13, they did a 50% off sale, but it was $180 at that point. I still thought it was a great deal, got the 750X plus two replacement wheels for $125 shipped. Definitely watch the DVD/youtube videos to learn how to use it. Lots of people say it doesn't work well, but I've had nothing but success if I take the time to set it up correctly.

How long does a wheel last?

Thanks! It was on my 'I need one' list since I no longer have access to one - once you use one and see how nice a bit can cut through metal, you never want to be without!

Stopped by Home Depot earlier today to buy a 500x but they didn't have any in stock. This was a much better deal. Thanks OP!

I'm incredibly tempted, but also wondering if this sale is designed to help clear out some excess inventory to make room for an upcoming 'new' model? Amazon shows the "Date First Available" for the DD 750X as October 2, 2001 so it may be time for a product change.

Thoughts either way?

Thanks, Drill Doctor (Darex) for honoring the code. I appreciate it.

Out of curiosity, how many sold? :shocking:

The orders will certainly be filled - most are shipping right now. We noticed the coupon error right away but we let it run its course. Congratulations to those of you that acted fast!

Damn, I'm not sure how I missed this one as I check this section regularly.

Ahh well, I'll come upon a nice used one some day.

I simply don't drill enough holes to justify a new one.

But I want....I really want.....

LOL at the guy who "can't afford to save anymore money"

I bought one few years ago..... seems like it was about 120 bux at the time.
Anyhow, I really like it. Do pay attention to the instructions so that you can set it up right.
It can sharpen bits to 118deg or 130deg (IIRC).
I ran through some bigger (1/2" plus) old bits that were basically thrashed and chipped to hell and in short order they were good as new.
Go easy with it - dont try to make a sharp bit with one pass - it takes a few (half doz or so) revolutions of the collet/bit for a nice even finish.

Thanks for honoring the orders. It's hard to find a stand-up company like this any more.
My guess is that your good will gesture will go 10x further than the same amount spent on advertising. You can bet anytime the Drill Doctor name comes up nothing but good things will be said by everyone whose orders were fulfilled.

Adding my thanks to Darex - Drill Doctor for honoring the code. They could just have easily come back and said it was an error and they can't honor the discount. We see statements like that in print sales advertisements all the time.
You guys are now on the 'Good Guys' list here on the Garage Journal. You can be sure if I need a replacement wheel or different grits or any other accessories I will go to there first. We gotta keep these guys in business!

And I got a shipping notice this afternoon

Already sent to Darex, but I was on the fence about purchasing one of these. I have quite a few dull bits and was thinking about the Drill Doctor, but due to the size of some of them I was pretty much limited to the 750x. I had the 750x, one of those bench grinder sharpening jigs and some replacement bits in my Amazon cart trying to decide which one to get when I saw this deal. Naturally I jumped on it. If it works as well as the reviews seem to indicate I won't be able to shut up about it and will probably sell a few of them.

I bought the one that will do spade bits. Makes a total different tool out of them when they are sharp.

So I didn't order one of these, simply because I didn't think I'd use it enough. If that ever changes, I'll buy with confidence. So many places these days will just cancel orders and say "we messed up, sorry!" So big kudos to the company for honoring the orders. Consumers are rarely pleasantly surprised these days, so that speaks volumes.

Got mine today... I really like it. The finish on the end of the bit didn't look that great, but they performed really well and held an edge.

Two minor complaints regarding ergonomics. The "depth adjustment" knob is in and very hard to turn. It either needs to be larger or there needs to be better access.

The "cam" action also seems to hang up a bit at one specific point in its rotation (when it is not grinding), if there was a way to get rid of this, it would be great.
