I'm looking for a cordless drill / impact combo. Got any suggestions under $300? I've been looking at the Makita LCT300W for $259.99. It has good reviews, and comes with a free battery offer now. This a decent set?

Thanks,

RD

Something else for consideration:

$279.00

These have a 5-year guarantee, tool and batteries. Also, these batteries are lithium manganese, instead of lithium cobalt technology.

I got the 7 piece set, which included the impact driver, the driver-drill, circular saw, angle grinder flashlight and demo saw.....

The ONLY tool of the bunch that was a total dissapointment was the Angle Grinder.

The dedicated driver is not what you might be wanting for automotive work.... stick with air for that.

But it is useful for screwign in decks/pickets stuff like that.

Buy it for the combo driver/drill... not for the thrown in items.

The 6 piece set is about 599.00 at Costco... jsut be SURE they are giving you the better version, not the cheaper... more than one 18V product in the line.

But for working on cars.... I would get air tools.

MAkita is made in China.... Pay US price, get Chinese. And no fortune cookie in the kit, but it comes in a tool bag that is worth 150.00 !

I bought the white compact Makita set a month ago and love it. The difference between the white compacts and the regular green tools are the batteries. The white tools have 1.5 amp/hour and the green ones come with 3 amp/hour Lithium ion batteries. The white tools have the same charger and will accept the bigger batteries as well.

I drove 14 3/8x4" lags into a 130 year old 6x8 timber sill for the floor joists of an addition with the impact and it didn't balk a bit. I also used them for a deck over the 4th week-end. The 15 minute charger makes up for the shorter battery run time.

The white Makitas have the same parts explosions as the green ones, just the smaller batteries and better balance.

I built a 24' X 40' weld-up metal shop building and used my 18 volt Ryobi impact driver to run all of the several thousand screws it took for the sides, roof and trim. I don't know how any one can make one any better. And by the way for the late nights the little LED light was useful.

I have that kit and it is well worth the money. I like how small they are and they have plenty of power.
