Drill press cabinet

Right a have very quickly knocked up a cabinet for my drill press to sit on


It's not perfect it's only held together by a few screws

The question is do I put it this way

I'd put it on the right side of your tool box. Setting it there would give you more room around the drill press.

I like it up against the bench for extra stability, then you could roll the tool box out the way if you need more room.

Just my $0.02
Bolt the press to the top.
Put it on wheels.
Put some cheap sheeting of some type on sides and back for rigidity.
Add a bottom shelf, and maybe a couple of shallow drawers.

Now it mobile, so where you place it is much less critical, and you can keep all your bits, disks, drums, etc. all on the cart. Add your hand held on the bottom shelf and you have one central location for all your hole making stuff.

P.S. even without any of these changes, GOOD JOB!

I'm not keen on the wheels idea basically when drilling something it could be on a uneven surface if a pull the cabinet out onto the middle of the floor

The floor looks flat doesn't mean it is plus there is a few bumps on the floor too

But I am planning on a drawer and doors too to use up the whole space

I'd put it in the middle. Mine will live on top of a small 'cabinet' on top of my safe - nice sturdy base.

Tool box against bench looks cumbersome

Bet tool box gets used 20 fold over drill. How often you use stuff equals it's location pecking order

A is the box all the time but the wooden shelfs I'm planning on scrapping anyway
As for the drill I just brought it so a will prob use it as much as poss

This is how I did mine.

This is from a "tanker" style desk. but with some reinforcement I would use the newer black/wood top style.
The drawers are great for storing drills and such.

It is on HF casters so I can stash it out of the way until I need it.
(I think casters are somethin HF does well.
They have a spoked, iron wheel with a rubber tire that is apx 5" dia.
That I use a lot.)

This is the process so far I'm planning on fitting 5 Stanley sortmaster junior boxes into or between the legs of the cabinet

Wow!! That looks awfully short to me. I built my drill press bench high enough so that the drill bit/chuck was about eye level. It's a lot easier to have the handle up about eye level than to have it so that you have to bend over to use it. Plus, you will want to see what the bit is doing while you are using it. You might want to make it a little taller. But that's just me............

The chuck looks to be about the same height as a floor model drill press would be.

Once a put the drill onto the bench it will be at eye level
