Driveway replacement cost??

I've got a concrete driveway (20x45) In pretty bad shape. The city came out and redid the culvert, so now I want to get some bids on getting the driveway removed and replaced. The first 2 came in just south of 10k for a new 4" thick with wire mesh.... Does that sound right?

I'm in north east IL (closer to WI than chicago )

It will vary by location. Local its about 5.85 per sqft which is about half what your cost it. So 10k maybe high. I live in a small town...

I just had mine quoted out. Its 22 ft x 22ft asphalt, wanted to go to concrete. Quotes ranged from $3100 to $5000. I'm in southern NJ, which is generally an expensive area.

Haven't had it done yet, probably going to wait until next year now.

11$ a sq ft sounds high.. back in the 80's we paid 3$ sq ft for new single family homes

Shouldn't add that much to the cost. They'll have that thing busted up and gone in about an hour. I can see a 15-20% increase for removal of the existing driveway but they seem too high. My neighbor had a drive replaced two summers ago about that size (I think his was 16' x 52' or something thereabouts) and it ran him $5500 all in.

4.44$ a sq ft sounds more realistic.

I didn't think about demo and removal.. shouldn't be more than 2 or 3 $ a ft

Its been a couple years, but removal was a buck a foot. Flat work is. 50 cent a foot to form and pour, but they take the price of the concrete and double it so there is some hidden cost in there. This is all labor. You buy the form boards rebar and mesh

From someone who has demo'd and repoured plenty of concrete the easy part is pouring the new stuff. Lots of money and time goes into concrete demo. Jackhammer is all up, use a skidster(not a cheap piece of machinery) to load it into a dump truck(not cheap) drive it to a dump where you also have to pay to get rid of it. Fuel for all of these machines, insurance on them, paying a guy to operate each one, insurance on each guy, paying each guy, not to mention the cost of the machine and wear and tear on the machines too. Oh and then there is licensing costs on the dump truck, commercial drivers license cost. So yeah it should be free to do all this. Come on people! Concrete itself usually costs somewhere around $95 a yard, double that for the labor and double those two again for the demo. You'll probably be close to 10k.

Who did you use? I just called a reputable company (my friend works for them) and the quote was $700 per 100 square feet. That's removal of old, haul away, and pour/finishing. My driveway is 925 square feet so it was almost $6,500.

Looks like about 3 trucks,and around here $120 yd is the going rate,so yeah $10,000 sounds about right...with the labor.

Don't get too wrapped up in prices as pricing on concrete work, as with any type of construction, is regionally dependent. I live in rural-ish North Carolina and I can promise that my rate would be way lower than someone in suburban Philly/NJ/NY. That said, I think we can all agree that $10K is getting near the upper limit. I would keep shopping.

they tell you that so you WONT do it. if you take it out yourself to save that grand they are still banking on you for taking it out when they didnt have to touch it, IMO.

Competent job, but we got a bad load of concrete, so we have cracks. You also have to tell his guys NO T-intersection cuts when they do the saw cuts. It can cause cracks.

I live In an expensive city and we would do that for 7.50 per sf.

Seems high to me. I paid $3000 for a 24x24 concrete slab. You have about twice the size. I can't see it costing 4 grand to break up and remove the old driveway. I'd think 6-7 is reasonable.
