Drop/Acoustic ceiling in shop building?

My 30x50 red iron shop building will have 14' walls with a 1/12 pitch roof, fully insulated (6" roll in fiberglass), A/C, with mini-rib metal on the interior walls. The building will have no ceiling material covering the insulation.

I would like to cover the insulation for aesthetics and to help reduce sound resonation with the metal walls. Any thoughts on using an acoustic tile drop-in ceiling in a shop?

With the A/C duct run against the roof ridge, I should be able to hang a ceiling grid just below the 14' wall height that will still clear the 12' needed by my two-post lift.

It sounds like a good idea to me, and something that I can do myself with a power lift, but what do I know???

I just installed an acoustic ceiling in the shop side of my project.

The reasons were :

1. Future access
2. Lighting- I used a program to design my lights and grid based flat panel lights that gave the illumination I wanted were quite numerous - 32 reqd (2x2 5000lumens) for the 35x40 shop area. Using the grid made it easy and nice to install all those lights and make it look very good and finished. The LED panels are very reasonable theses days at about $45 each.
I used a 2x2 grid with the tegular edge panels that look better than the old basement stuff.
3. Sound deadening,
4. Simple and fast

My shop ceilings are at about 9.5 feet.

I think they do not get the attention they deserve.

Go for it.

Go to a commercial ceiling place and buy the better grade main "t" and other parts as their is a big difference between commercial grade and big box store. More expensive but belive me it's worth the difference. Ask me how I know..

Milton, please name a commercial ceiling company. I'm not in that line of work and wouldn't know where to shop for the good stuff.

USG and Armstrong are a few ceiling manufacturers used in commercial work. I've bought Armstrong components from the big box stores.

Most of the Big Box stock only certain sizes. You can order them online and still be cheaper than paying the "commercial" price.
