I've heard that dog urine deterrs skunks... you have a dog.. maybe direct them to the shed when the skunk is out and let them do their business.
Oh man, I feel your pain on this one. It took me ages to get the squirrels from chewing their way into my garage. A skunk is a different story I suppose, and its hard to block off dirt. They will continue to move stones, sticks, etc unless you get drastic haha. Normally I would suggest live trapping and release, but that might not be a good plan with a skunk, for obvious reasons. I'd be tempted to either do the patio stones like you said, or pound 12" pieces of rebar into the ground every few inches (which is a lot of rebar).
Good luck on this, animals like squirrels, skunks, raccoons, and even birds can be a real nuisance. I know a lot of my rural farmer relatives in the O-Valley would just point their shotguns at them, but it seems residential areas frown on that![]()
Yep - Eric has been through the animal tearing up the garage phase already. They are hard to get rid of for sure.
Skunks are a pain. You could go with a bb gun and maybe cause it enough pain to not want to come back in your yard. A good pellet gun (Id go with a .22 but being in a neighborhood that wouldnt go over well) will kill it, but they spray after they die sometimes. A live trap is humane but they will spray while in the trap and during transport. Maybe look at some sort of sonic pest deterrent if you have electric in the shed, or chicken wire(but it will be ugly.)

Although i would love to make this happen this option is not in the cards where we live.
Is it an issue in the neighborhood or Canada in general? It could be worse I have armadillos digging up my yard and I think they live under my shed.
My first thought was, just shoot it. But, that probably wouldn't go over well. Obviously if you or someone you know doesn't have the equipment this would not be a helpful suggestion, but could you run a piece of electric line where he is squeezing through? I think if you shocked him really well that would probably be a good deterrent. Or if your wife carries a stun gun in her purse. Or if I was closer I have a blow dart gun you could borrow. Of course if you went that route you would also have to have some feathers and war paint laying around as well. You probably don't have access to any of these, but just some suggestions.
Have you figured out what he is after? Just a warm place to hideout or sleep?
All great suggestionsOff to the store for some war paint hahaha. From what i have read they look for a "den" at this time of year to get ready for the winter. Another annoying aspect of this is he walks right by my neighbours shed, which is identical!
You should have led with that information. Dig a hole beside your neighbors shed. Find a black cat and paint a white stripe on it and place it on one side of the hole. On the other side of the hole place a vase of roses. From my child hood experiences watching cartoons, this should solve all your problems.
When I lived in Ottawa and was biking it to work one fine
morning I surprised a skunk on the trail who managed to
hit me with the spray.
I stopped to survey the damage. Seemed to me that my
gloves and backpack took most of the spray and so
continued on my way to work.
It was not long that the whole office reeked of skunk and
so I decided it was best I leave to get cleaned up.
I ended up tossing out all the clothes and backpack.

Next time you grocery shop make sure to buy four or five quart cans of tomato juice. Our German Shepherd got up close and personal with a skunk just before midnight many years ago. You don't want to be out looking for an all-night grocery store if and when your beagle meets the skunk.
The most effective deterrent I've found is Cayenne pepper. If you don't have any in the house, just buy a small container. If it works, you can buy it in bulk from a restaurant supply store or through Amazon. It will upset your beagle some but it won't be as bad as a face full of skunk. Just sprinkle the pepper liberally around the shed and in and around any holes the skunk already dug.
See the definition in Canada regarding air guns and when they become firearms here: http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/fs-fd/air_gun-arme_air-eng.htm
Skunks are not protected animals and as it is damaging your yard and shed it qualifies as a nuisance and can be killed. This is no different than setting a mousetrap to catch mice in your garage. So, you can shoot the skunk with an air gun that does not meet the definition of a firearm legally.
If you don't want to do that you should be able to call animal control and have them deal with it or at least give you some ideas.
Bob's post reminded me of what my dad used to do to prevent our dog from digging up the garden when I was a kid. Get a bunch of mousetrapsand set them in the dirt where the skunk is digging (no need for bait). Then lay some sheets of newspaper on top of the traps and sprinkle a nice layer of cayenne pepper on top of the paper. Now, when the skunk arrives and starts digging he sets off the traps which launch cayenne pepper into its face.![]()
Dunno if it'll work for skunks but it did work for the dog.
Give an exterminator a shout, they may charge a fee but the animal will be taken away to a different location. No harm no foul.. well they may smell foul but that's the worst of it.
Btw they make "shrouded" air rifles, pellet makes more noise hitting the pest than the gun does. Perfectly legal also.
I have tickets on all 3 of Calgary's Home Lottery Houses. I have to win one. Right? The best on has a massive triple. C'mon baby!
Suggestion for the skunk: Bury some square shaped metal mesh. Dig down a few inches, anchor the mesh and cover it with gravel. Attach the top of the mesh to the foundation of your shed in order to seal it off. This should prevent the digging. You can spray paint the visible mesh to match your shed. Something like this: CLICK
May I ask if you made that VW stool? if so whats the meathod I want to steal that idea
Amazing progress!!! Good job, you deserve the "most rapid transformation"! Maybe I will have my local trophie shop make something up!
The place is looking realy sharp Dub! Even if there is only little change between, it's always enjoyable to see new pictures of your project.
While looking back at your single’s thread, I noticed that you made Coles notes to make it easier to navigate through your thread . I will be the first to suggest that you do the same here as it was a great feature. You could also put basic information in the first post like the size of your garage and your door, the height of the ceiling, etc.
Good luck on the skunk problem btw.
Looks Great dubberMay I ask if you made that VW stool? if so whats the meathod I want to steal that idea

Great progress dubber! I like the "Daily Driver" and "Sunday Driver" stenciling. It's the details that make it yours
very inspiring for those of us with attached 2 cars and limited space.
