Thanks Andrew. I know we all look fondly on some of the amazing and huge garages on this board. Forces us to get more creative to make smaller spaces look good while still maintaining their function. Would love to fill it with a bunch of items but then i wouldn't be able to let it function as a true double garage.

ehh, some of them i look at and just think "this person has more money than they know what to do with". it's rather easy to buy tons of cabinets and tool boxes and build 100x100 garages.. it takes creativity and cleanliness to peak my interest.

Nice. So clean, sharp and functional. I'm miles away from this point.....so jealous.

That's exactly what i'm going for, so thanks!

Dubber,

Any chance those retro posters are of a 928 S4 or a 911 SC?

Andy

I'll take a look tonight. I think they may all be Le Mans based as they were promoting the heck out of their return that weekend. They even had one out front along with a 918.

These shots i snapped may be of interest to you.

And this one is my buddies. He fully restored with his dad. I'm behind him rolling into a local Cars and Coffee.

That's the Porsche museum in Stuttgart, isn't it? I used to bounce in and out of there for work but never made it to that museum. I heard wonderful things about it.

I did make it to the Mercedes museum one day. That was also an awesome experience. My colleague and I had a "free" snow day so we went over there in the morning and ended up spending almost eight hours walking through the whole building.

I really hope I can get back there someday for the Porsche museum.

Yeah that is definately Porscheplatz.

I was there a year ago - very nice place and the factory tour is awesome!

Yes you guys are correct. Its funny you should mention not attending the Porsche museum but you did go to the mercedes museum. On our trip to Stuttgart all i saw were Porsche signs, and then leaving i saw one Mercedes sign, hadn't even known it was there.

Very nice progress from a fellow dubber! Sad to think we've owned out home for 1 1/2 years and I'm just finishing the exterior renovation of our detached garage.

But our house was a total fixer-upper, the garage was left until last. Now I need to make room for both my Jettas to be inside over the winter. 2004.5 1.8T GLS black on black and my 2002 Jetta wagon.

Some day I'll start a thread on it, lol.

Really like the window film. Will have to remember that one...

Perhaps I missed it, but do the yellow pipe fittings indicate something to come with regards to the Racedeck color?

Hahaha, awesome Sean, thanks!

Great suggestions, thanks! I'll definitely make those additions as i know they were helpful in my last one, even for myself!

Yes i did create those actually. They are documented in my last thread (dubber's single). Super cheap and fun. Basically a $10 unfinished wooden stool that i assembled, painted black, sourced some VW vinyl decals, then sprayed a clear top coat to seal it. All in i think it cost me $30 for both stools, well worth it in my opinion.

Edit: Pages 10, 14 and 19 have some pics.

Before:

After #1:

After #2:

I like these stools and will make a couple for myself...well, Chevy and Porsche ones....but what kind of clear did you spray that won't cause the decals to wrinkle up? AND doesn't chip off the slick decal surface.

Awesome, i look forward to seeing your thread pop up. Get busy! hahaha. No i'm pretty lucky that this place was basically turnkey so all the work is just making it our own and adding some personality.

I definitely recommend it. Mine is just a $30 kit from Home Depot.

Hey Dan, i'll take a look tonight to see if if the off chance i still have the can. My mom had given me the can during a pre-move cleanse. They still hold up like new.

Its definitely a compulsion i have. All storage rooms, closets and even the shed are well organized. Having more space makes it much easier yes, but less space forces the creativity juices. In our condo i had a storage room that was only probably 6'x4' but it was basically full wall to wall, floor to ceiling, but you could easily find and grab anything.

Your progress is so quick that its hard to keep up. Your shop looks good and I will probably borrow a couple ideas.

Borrow away! Appreciate you checking out my thread. The progress was definitely quick indeed. Wishing i would have taken more pics during the stages but i was on such a roll. When i wasn't at work i was busy plugging away in there.

Exactly my thoughts! I guess I need to visit the forum more often just to keep track of the progress!

Great going and looking good!

Excellent, glad to hear it makes you want to keep checking back.

Really liking the clean simple lines uncluttered look.

Nice to see that the look appeals to other people. Although i will slowly be adding some items, i will definitely stay true to that theme.

Well we had two family gatherings this weekend at the new place. Wife's family local family members for a bday dinner on Sat (6 people) and then my local family for a dinner on Sunday (11 people). Obviously it was so great being able to have our family over to test the new place. At the old place we wouldn't have been able to comfortably accommodate everyone for a proper sit down meal so this was a real treat. Especially fun was to see all of their reactions walking into the garage to check out what i've been up to. Tons of compliments and positive reactions. Loved seeing my grandpa walk around and check out the tools etc and start to tell me some stories about tools and toolboxes of his past.

Dubber, wasn't it a great feeling to finally be able to be a large-gathering party host? My three sisters-in-law called our second house 'The Party House' so I know what you mean. I bet you went back to work today to relax!

Also, that time visiting with your grandpa: PRICELESS!

I picked up these posters at the Porsche museum this summer, which happened to be before we had actually solidified our next place. I'm thinking that i wanted to expand the theme of the garage to include several V.A.G companies. Trying to decide if i want to mount all three or just two of these guys, makes sense to do all three if i can fit them in.

These are the three spots that I'm toying with:

I could fit all three porsche posters here.

This spot would be above the cabinet for the VW frame, as the TV will be above the tool chest.

All three posters would also fit above the silver bins.

Also looking for a home for this guy.

This one found a home over the weekend. I've had it for several years just never enough room to mount it where it should be placed :)

?...These shots i snapped may be of interest to you.

Looks ALMOST like the twin of the '76 911S I rebuilt. I did a mini backdate on it by using the smaller Euro bumper guards and got rid of the flag mirrors for the '74 chrome ones. I loved that car but didn't drive it that much and sold it to an exporter that sent it to The Netherlands.

Sorry for the crappy photo. Only one I've got on my iPad:

Nice progress. I'm reading through the thread still, what brackets did you use for the recycling bins? I like this idea.

EDIT: just saw the item in a subsequent post. What section in HD did you find that?

Played a little more with the layout last night. I'm liking this little 'nook' beside the stairs for all of the garbage and recycling boxes. With a larger garage i was able to get a real garbage can and not the mini me can i had in my last space. For now i think this area will work fine, well until i need to use the space for something else :)

Trying to get a feel of where everything will go before i attack the wall repairs and paint.

I completely agree Xander. What I'm thinking is that i could also put them up now and if need be they could be easily moved and patched to put something more necessary in place. Your posters have a similar feel indeed.

Posters are awesome Dubber! They will really make a great addition to your new space.

Wow! Nice work Dan, that looks like it turned out really well. And you are right that could be a twin.

Found it randomly while walking in the garbage can section. I think they may be Canadian. They were hanging from a post within that area so keep your eyes peeled.

Spent the day in someone else's garage. I volunteered at a Habitat for Humanity build today, third year in a row. Always an amazing experience, great cause and the people are very friendly. Doesn't hurt that i also get to learn some building tips that i don't normally have exposure to. Its funny, they were telling me most Habitat builds don't do garages however with this area it was necessary to be in line with the look of the neighbourhood. Bonus for them!

I really enjoyed browsing this thread. A, because I have an A3 TDI and 90 Westfalia, and B, because every element of your garage reflects thought and purpose. Thanks :)

Thanks Dennis, much respect for your vehicle selection. Would love to have a A3 with diesel power. My dad has a Westy from that era and its incredibly useful. I'm sure your a regular on Go Westy.

While at home depot today grabbing a couple little things i remembered there had been a few questions about my recycling box hanger. This little piece saves grief and space. The label confirms it is Canadian made so i'm not sure if it would be carried in the US Home Depot stores or not. Anyway for those that were curious, here you go.
