Haven't been active in forever, good to see that you've made a significant upgrade, you always work well in the spaces you get, you've given me ideas and somewhat re-inspired me to finish (never finished but you know) the garage. It has recently gotten out of control as a catch all, haha.

Congratulations! The picture of mowing the yard for the first time, that is the stuff I remember too - just enjoy the smell and sounds of grass and garages..

This post 191 really shows what a great job you do on the garage space! Nice job!

Thanks Andrew. Those little things I'm thinking will stay as important milestone memories. Think that was the first time i had mowed a lawn in over 15 years. Also first time doing it without getting paid some allowance hahaha.

Good idea I may borrow. I have a clear glass window in the garage up high and I do love the light it adds. Your approach may reduce need to clean the glass as often.

I'm really happy with this project. $30 kit at Home Depot, assuming it will be available at the US locations. Agreed with the glass cleaning as well. One of my biggest annoyance is dirty windows.

Are you picking up the flooring with one of your cars, or borrowing someone's bigger vehicle?

Mind PM'ing me what they quoted you for the flooring? I have a similar space. I've sent them two quote requests over the last 3 weeks and still have not heard anything back. I'm debating whether to use Race Deck or go with horse stall mats.

Borrowing my in-laws Mazda Tribute for the run, probably also borrow my brother in-law haha.

Happy to see i could help breath new life into your project. I've always said thats one of the greatest features of this site is the positive motivation it breeds.

Some great progress! Looking forward to seeing the floor put down, plus grey walls are the way forward. ;)

Cheers! Thank you sir.

PM'd.

For other Canadians looking to order RaceDeck flooring send an email or call and ask for Melanie or Susan. Excellent quick and efficient service from both of these nice ladies. I've dealt with them twice now and have nothing but good things to say.

Starting to do some research on insulating a garage door. When i first moved in my intention was to just buy an insulated door but with the quotes I'm getting i will be putting this off for a while. Still a little miffed that it isn't insulated as every other place we looked at had an insulated door. Easy fix to replace but not cheap that's for sure. My other problem is that i really don't like the look of most DIY insulating jobs, just my personal taste. I'm not a fan of the white puffy Owens Corning type kit, nor am i a fan of the foil roll out kits.

I did however find a great DIY from 'Wingnut65'. Even searching through Google brought me back to this site, love that hahaha.
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=103788

This would ideally be the route i would take. I like the idea of the rigid foam and even more appealing is that i can paint the panels. Piecing together my own parts can make this a super cheap project, in comparison to the pre-made kits and especially to replacing the door. I'm thinking that its really worth a shot.

If anyone has any input, experience, or comments based on the above let me know. Thanks!

Buy a properly-insulated door. It's worth the investment. :)

That's my plan down the line for sure. But the $80 or so needed to make this happen right now seems more realistic then the $2,500 bill to replace a door that is actually only two years old.

$2500? I paid $1850 for the Amarr doors I have (1 double, 1 single). Unless you're going super-duper deluxe ..

Thanks I'll try that company. Is the price you quoted including tax and install? I've had two quotes thus far and both are over $2000 for a basic, insulated double garage doors with top row of windows.

Yes, that was installed for both. I don't have windows, but that wasn't a crazy increase if I recall. Amarr and Heritage were the two companies I was looking at, at the time.

Back during that phase of the build, I had a list of 5-7 local garage door installers that I was checking with. Some appeared unusually high in their markup, installation costs, or both. YRMV.

I've been thinking of insulating my door similarly to the one in the link you posted. My HOA doesn't allow for the replacement of the door to an insulated model and I agree that the Owens-Corning kit is ugly and expensive for what it is. I figure I'll try the rigid foam and see how it goes. Anything must be better than a single sheet of aluminum.

Thinking the same thing. And for the price, its worth a shot.

I can't wait to see the end result of the floor! Great color choice.

There is something I just noticed, may I ask why you went with side to side instead of front to back regarding the neon lighting placement?

RaceDeck is going to be the cherry on top, for sure.

Is your floor really slanted to the car door? It would appear to drop in elevation by a foot from some of those photos you just posted.

Nice job on the window film. I tried this on a small window with success, but when I true duty on larger window wasn't able to avoid a wrinkle or two (or three).

Looking forward to floor pics.

To get good lighting on the sides of the garage. I'm also going to be adding one 4 tube light above the bench at the front and one at the back of the garage.

Really coming along nicely man

Its slanted yea. Doesn't feel extreme to me though, nice to have the water go the intended direction hahaha.

Thanks, its kind of a pain, and for the separation step an extra set of hands makes it a lot easier.

Very nicely done.

The floor will look great like the rest of the garage.

Thank you sir.

Sorry to ask a question that has probably already been answered already, but there are too many pages! :) Where did you get the towel rack that swings out from the wall with the 4 bars? It looks great, I need to get one for sure. Thanks!

No worries, i think it was only mentioned in my previous thread 'dubber's single'. I actually poached the idea from Rick, its from IKEA. In Canada i think the price is 9.99 Super handy and looks great.

Dubber, I forgot you were in Ottawa, that must have been a tense day. People were pretty shaken up even here.

On a happier note, things are looking great and I love the design for your racedeck. I think it's going to look amazing when you get it all down! I really like the "different shades of a single colour" thing going on, it's super clean.

You're a genius!

I don't mind the occasional trip to Ikea. They have incredible frozen yogurt.

Dubber that shot of the door is cherry. So clean and cool. I like the windows in the door as well. You need a couple of grinders and table saws to blow those door tracks full of sawdust------well, maybe not! Looks real good!!!! You have done yeoman's work since your move in.

Best Regards

Probably seems a lot less steep in person. I think it looks similar to mine.

Interesting. Having any slope on the garage floor would annoy the hell out of me. Is that normal in Canada?

Sloped floors are pretty common is areas with snow and rain. Whatever comes in on your car drains out to the driveway.
The sloped garage thing worked great when my hot water heater broke and drained for about 6 hours before I got home.

Read the whole thread tonight....great job! My single project stopped when moved this past summer and I only now have a carport...but it is a double carport with a decent driveway...Not sure if that is better or worse...We will be building a new double garage, but not for a couple of years. Looking forward to seeing your floor go in.

Is it just me or does that floor slope towards the door at a pretty crazy angle?

No not crazy at all, must be a visual thing. I think its also accentuated by the black footer.

Agreed!

I think "someone" is a bit too busy to be answering questions.

Amen Rick, busy weekend.

Interesting. Having any slope on the garage floor would annoy the hell out of me. Is that normal in Canada?

Not sure, i've only owned garages in Canada. Both of my homes from different builders were the same.

Love seeing the continued interest in my thread.

Well as everyone knows my RaceDeck arrived this week, Thursday to be precise. I had it sent to Ogdensburg at the UPS Store again, such an easy process based on where i live to help me really maximize my savings. Just a quick 50 min drive and i'm loading up the car. Decided to borrow my in-laws Tribute for the trip as this order was double my last; 8 boxes and 260 lbs later we were loaded up. Also grabbed my brother in law for the trip, way more fun with a solid guy ridding shot gun.

The install didn't take much time at all considering. BIL stayed to experience the magic of installing RaceDeck :) Literally within an hour and a half we had 3/4 of the floor done. Plans Sat night meant i couldn't get it all done unfortunately. Attacked the rest this morning. I needed to do cuts for the tiles on most of the back wall, and then the whole right side. At first my plan was to take the stairs off and then put the floor under before reinstalling. After checking the mounting screws it was much easier to just trim the feet and slide the floor under.

I can with all honesty say, "My garage makes me happy" Thanks again RaceDeck.

RaceDeck landed
