I'm sadly on there almost daily.
ha, me too... don't need anything but I'm always looking...
Yours looks to be in great shape, had it long?
Thanks, and it is a very clean example. I picked up in the spring of 2013 with 73,000km on it and never winter driven. Now it has 91k and still being stored... I miss it, I have been gathering some parts over the winter and just itching to tear into it, especially with the new garage.

You must have a thread on a forum for your GLI, no?

I'm starting to think its a sickness i have, glad to hear I'm not alone! I set-up a thread on OVD when i first got the car, not much to update lately though, on to a bigger project hahaha.

It was interesting seeing a twin garage space to yours, Dubber.

PS..white and grey are amazing garage colours!

Rick it was you who initially bumped that thread which put it on my radar. Very useful for planning my space. Our place was built a few years afterwards so there are some variations i've noticed. And agreed about the colours.

Love all the VAG love <3

Those are my thoughts after going through ALL 45 pages of this wonderful thread. I've got ideas bouncing around my head now, waiting to explode. The information and suggestions and feedback and all that stuff in this thread have been nothing but terrific. This thread has it all: it's well-written, contains excellent photos and has great contributors.

This may have been the motivation I needed (aka kick in the ***) to get my garage project in gear. For too long, it's been "I can't" or "this garage isn't good enough" (to fix up). I've wanted to fix ours up since we moved in, but when I start to think of all that goes into it, I find myself getting super frustrated and talking myself out of it.

But after showing my wife this thread and talking it over with her (who is fully on board with me building the garage of my dreams), I'm going to devise a plan of attack and start with step 1 and go from there. What more can you do, right?! Do one thing at a time and eventually, progress will manifest itself.

In summary, thank you!:bowdown::bowdown: Thank you for this amazing thread and showing me what is possible with a garage of this size (we have very similarly sized garages), when you add a little patience and some fantastic thoughts and ideas. You were the motivator I needed. I'm hoping sometime in the next year, I'll be posting my own garage build thread.

Also helps that you're a fellow german auto enthusiast. While I'm a BMW guy, myself, I do appreciate the VW culture and am friends with a well-known Vdub guy in the Northeast...fuzzy. :3gears:

Keep up the good work! Based on how this thread was written, I'm thinking I should go back and read through your dubber's single thread.

Hey dubber your shop, house and cars are looking great.

On your Husky floor cabinet would it be possible to put some castors on it to roll it around or would it be to wobbly?

Thanks.

Well my home WIFI is officially driving me bonkers! :eyecrazy:
Trying to do a trouble shoot process of elimination has lead me to thinking i need a new router unfortunately. Looks like the airport extreme has **** the bed. Anyone have the newer Apple Airport extreme model? Thinking this would be my best option as the newer technology and user friendly aspect really appeals to me. Dealing with this has meant i haven't been able to complete the install of the myQ in the garage. I was however able to get the devices mounted and i have the status function now on my phone. With the wifi signal so weak in the garage using my temporary set-up, I haven't been able to get the open/close function completed.

In the meantime i did manage to put a smile on my face...

Time for another quick and dirty ghetto photoshop :rocker:

I'm thinking about selling my Craftsman 2 drawer mobile cabinet and replace it with the Husky Base Cabinet which is part of the set i already have.

From this:

To this:

There are a few reasons as to why I'm thinking of changing it up. First is I'm sick of needing to wedge the front two wheels up so that the drawers don't slide open. Also i never need to move it around so castors aren't necessary. Third there is wasted space behind the unit as it isn't deep. Husky piece is 5 inches deeper. Fourth, it will match the other items. I also like the fact that is the same height but without the castors there is more actual storage room to put to use. And lastly i will only end up doing this if I can sell the Craftsman and make this cost me nothing out of pocket.

Anyone have the newer Apple Airport extreme model?

I installed an AirPort Time Capsule about a year ago, which is essentially an AirPort Extreme plus a hard drive for easy backups of iMacs via TimeMachine software. We back up two iMacs hourly to the Time Capsule and once a month I run a TimeMachine backup of each iMac to a USB hard drive with two partitions. I keep that hard drive at work so in case of fire or theft we don't lose music, documents or photos.

The Time Capsule is located in the basement, and the signal reaches the first floor of our house but not the second. I have network cable running from the basement to three different locations (including the garage!) where I have installed Linksys WAP300N wireless access points with the same SSID and password as the Time Capsule Wi-Fi. That gives me strong Wi-Fi throughout the house, garage and backyard. Mobile devices will seamlessly switch between the Wi-Fi sources as you move around the house.

The Time Capsule works fine, but I prefer the Linksys web interface (especially for their newest models) over Apple's AirPort Utility software which you use to manage the Time Capsule. I like the additional control that Linksys offers for those who want it. If we didn't have two iMacs, I would have installed a Linksys router, but I have no real complaints about the Time Capsule.

Our area received a solid dump of snow yesterday which meant a ton of shoveling and a messy garage. To my fellow Canadians out east, I feel for you guys and i shouldn't be complaining from the looks of it :)

Just to show its not always top shape out in the garage. Luckily the weekend is near and i can clean it up. This is what it looks like after all the snow and ice melts through the tiles.

Believe me, I feel your pain. I'm in new England...all I have done for the past 2 weeks is wake up, clean snow, go to work, come home, clean more snow, go to bed, wake up and repeat.

from a fellow Eastern Canadian who is once again getting another storm, where does the water in your garage go from the melting snow? does it leak out under the door similar to what i have and make a mess? or do the tiles hold it enough for it to evaporate into the space?

Your own personal Groundhogs Day :)

What is this "snow" you speak of? And why is it so messy?

Get out of here lol...

Its like the colour of your M, but nasty! hahaha

Mine melts at the top of the garage, and slowly leaks out of the garage. Usually freezes at the door though. If there are snow chunks left in the garage after i pull out i'll just shovel those out.

Stay strong brother!

Ouch Scott, I can see you feel my pain!

I'm so glad I don't have to deal with the white stuff. I pity you guys. Hang in there, spring is like five months away. :)

Hahaha yea its a challenge for sure. Luckily out my way in two full months from now it will be gone and streets will be clean again.

I hate Cold snowy winters. It hasn't been this cold here for an extended period of time in NJ in a few winters. Was just 4 F overnight last night, next Friday my phone is telling me it's going to be -4 F with a high of 10 F, and 3 F on Sat and Sunday night. So glad I'm having a heater installed in my garage today. The 16" of snow on he ground here isn't going to melt anytime soon.

Clearing a driveway with 4 cars ***** and takes much longer than a driveway without any cars. Took me 5 hours to clear my driveway, walkway and vehicles the last snow storm and that was with only 10 inches of heavy wet snow. And I have a monster snow blower too.

I feel your pain as well. I've used the snow blower so much that I can barely see my mailbox right now.

My extra wide driveway seemed like a great idea for the summer time, but not so much when it's time to get all the snow out of the way. Come on spring time!

I do feel for those of you in Eastern Canada and the U.S. that are not used to these amounts of snow.... however, it's just another Wednesday for us in Saskatchewan. haha

easy to say when the snow that you guys normally see is not around. ( i have lots of family in Rider country) Its just another day here as well between the 10ft snow banks and cars you cant see till the last minute as they pull out of yards and roads.

/\ That would get tiring very fast. Do you always "store" a car on the driveway through the winter?

Sorry to ***** your garage thread with my snow photos.

Yeah, that car has been the never ending project, I need to get the suspension back on that car so I can at least roll it into the garage. Now you know why my Vipers were in their original boxes in my garage for over 2 years. :(

hahah It's all about who's got the biggest snow pile sitting on their front lawn.

Amen!

We'll see who still has the most snow in April/May. I will win that one.

I have no doubt! I miss "spring" skiing at Sunshine.

More snow, more snow, more snow..... Yup i'm certainly over this!

This was what i woke up to this morning...

After the walkway the driveway was next. This mountain is getting unreal. Had the car in the shot for perspective.

A much needed Sunday afternoon relaxation session was due after cleaning up mother nature's mess.

Positive note yesterday after another two hours on the phone with varies IT reps the decision was made that my wifi issue was resulting from my router. Looks like my old Apple Airport Extreme had **** the bed. Decided not to mess around and went to grab the new version. Have to say the signal is amazing. Does our whole place over three levels and into the garage with ease. This finally allowed me to complete the install of the Chamberlain MyQ. Love the functionality of this and we are now all up and running.

The life saver hahaha....

More fun garage news comes by way of some tool additions to the collection. I've been looking for a solid Impact driver for a couple months now and finally pulled the trigger. They aren't cheap (in my eyes) but i decided the best bet was take advantage of a package price, that way i basically got a bonus drill and a secondary battery which was more my focus.

Scooped up this set at Lowes over the weekend for $129. Tons of power on the impact, can't wait to give it a real challenge. Tackling a deck this spring is now looking much more realistic lol... well that and my plan to fly out my personal contractor, old pops :)

Nice dubber! I just had FIOS fiber optic 75/75 installed, an upgrade over my previous shared cable modem and the speed is insane on my work apple laptop. Videos on YouTube run immediately no loading icons anymore. On my antiquated G5 tower the speed is slower than previously was. A reminder I need to stop being cheap and upgrade to maybe a new iMac. My old airport would work with the fiber optic wire so I had to use the Verizon router.

***** about the snow, I can't wait for spring myself.

That impact wrench should really come in handy for you! Nice splurge.

Spring can't come soon enough. I'm tapping out lol...

Those snow banks are ridiculous. We get snow, but seems like the East gets S.N.O.W.

Nice haul.

Its been crazy. The weird thing is the day we left for St-Lucia (Jan 3rd) we actually had no more snow on the lawn. And now we have to shovel part of the lawn for our Beagle to go out there to do her business without drowning. She prefers just about an inch of fresh powder with moderate temperatures hahaha.

Yep. I have one I just bought in the fall after that big storm in Sept knocked out my Asus RT-N66U. Figured I may as well, since everything else in the house is Apple.
As a WiFi access Point, it's great. Strong signal. never seems to drop out.
Apple functionality (printing, Time Machine) is flawless.
I have to say, I'm quite disappointed in how limited it is (One person's user friendly is another person's limitation, I suppose.)
I will be keeping it around for the Apple print server, Time Machine functionality, etc, but plan to run in in Bridge Mode, once I pick up another Asus to run as my primary router at the edge, so I can run opensource firmware and do QOS to improve my VoIP sounds quality and manage DHCP properly. (The APE doesn't let me see DHCP assigned addresses to devices plugged in with a network cable...only the WiFi devices.)
I also haven't been able to RDP between computers at home since installing the APE. Was never a problem with the Asus before.

I fall into the user friendly of the analogy for sure :)

Same deal here with the snow, and watching TV in the basement! Nice score on the driver set!

Hahaha, nice to see.
