Went to see Louis' garage last night and he suggested I sign up for this site. Needless to say, I have spent the first 40 minutes of work this morning not working.
Louis, your garage has come a long way man and it's definitely motivation for me to get mine sorted.
Oh, and thanks for the pic of my car, even if I am 'losing'.

Heh, not nearly as quickly as I had hoped. Ive got the VCT flooring and some cabinets sitting in there, hoping to at least lay floor in the next couple weeks. I decked the attic space over the garage to move junk into, which was awesome in the summer. My thermometer said 122* one afternoon.

Well the heat is not so much the problem, it was having to clean an old garage/house out too soon, and now the new garage became the temp storage area until I can get everything in the attic, and we're also expecting a little one in NOV so preparing the house and new room has also taken a priority

Nothing much new for the garage itself, but I'm still enjoying using it
Spent some time tonight detailing the engine bay of my GLI, turned out well i think. Had to clean it up as i just added some parts; Forge Silicon Turbo Inlet Pipe and 3 light weight ECS tuning pulleys.
Also installed a MINI license plate mounted via the tow hook. Love the spot and its a solid piece.

Glad to see you are taking full advantage of your space. A lot of people overlook the importance of a clean engine bay. I am so glad Alberta doesn't require a front plate, although that is a funky place to mount one.
Thanks, yes its a great engine and very tunable which i have loved. And not too shabby for a near ten year old car
Man i love hanging out in there, actually ate dinner in there tonight as wifey was out hahaha. Taking the time to make it a fun and functional place has definitely added square footage to my place and i take advantage of it whenever i can. Rick you are very fortunate for sure that Alberta doesn't require that damn front plate. Here the dealers hack into the bumper and the vehicle is ruined if it isn't needed. I have a euro front rub strip on order that I will swap in to eliminate the holes left by the relocated plate. The benefit of this set-up is for any photos and for car shows i can easily unscrew it and not have a government billboard at the front of my car lol...

Seeing as my garage faces North, it's easily the coolest room in the house. We eat in there regularly on hot days. Neighbours used to scoff, but now they are jealous. Expect the ones who actually have air conditioning. Ha!
Awesome! Glad to hear i'm not the only one. Yes when the door is open i always have slow drive by's and neighbors who know me stop by. During the summer it definitely got hot in there and i had to retreat to my central air in the house so the temp lately has been perfect, very enjoyable.

I just wanted to comment, now that I've cleaned my garage up a *bit*, I'm starting to enjoy it again. I worked on my wife's van twice in the past week and it was actually enjoyable. Having a clean place to put parts I remove from the car, and having my tools handy, and where they're supposed to be was really nice. I'm jealous when looking at the racedeck flooring you guys have.. *sigh*.. one day. My middle son (he's 12) asks me "Dad, when are we going to trick out our garage like the ones you showed me on the internet?". I told him as we have time and $. We'll get there. (dubber, yours was one of the garages I showed him

Back on the jetta.. you're car is SUPER clean dubber! It's got to be a joy to look at it, and drive it.
On the front plate topic, Arizona does not require a front plate.. California did. I got more than one "fix it" ticket for running no front plate when living in California. I feel cars look SO much cleaner with no front plate.

Thank you that was nice of you to say about both the garage and GLI. I'm happy to have it at work today. Most days i commute with my wife and that involves bumper to bumper start stop traffic which is a huge pain in a manual. But not today
Its definitely great to be able to clear out and set-up a space to make it functional, what a concept! hahaha, Unfortunately a lot of people just see it as a storage or dumping ground. That's what's great about this website which comprises of a huge base of enthusiasts from various stages of life all wishing to just make their space useful and pleasing to be in.
I think we have all been there, shown a loved one pics or progress of another garage or a few that give us ideas and inspirations of things we can create and accomplish.
Back to the front plate yes, it is a huge pain, and unfortunately i over analyze every little detail of my car (and most other things), and that always gets to me. Once my euro rub strip arrives my clean front should look like this.
One of my friends who just received his new Golf R, had put it in his contract that if they drill holes in the front bumper for a plate he is backing out of the deal

Thanks katotter. I saw your silver mkv in your thread. I had a 2006 2.5 Jetta for about a year. I was able to actually flip it and make money with it. Not something i've ever been able to replicate.
I try to do what i can as I seem share a similar mentality as you, i don't like to share my stuff with others hahaha. I only get any required maintenance done by a mechanic i know that has his own shop. Avoiding potential headaches that i know others have experienced is always something on my mind. I've heard countless horror stories of people's vehicles being abused by a "care giver".

My point exactly, thanks Rick. Hadn't heard that exact story but a couple variations of the same thing. Young shop workers and Valets are the worst from my personal experience and those of friends/family/stories I've read.
I'll never forget when i had an oil leak checked at a shop that was close to my work for my Audi (at the time). I was called to say it was done and ready to be picked up. As i walked over i saw my car drive away filled with people. I arrived at the shop and was told that they must be doing a quality check. Knowing this wasn't true, I was fuming and I stood out front of the shop for half an hour waiting for them to return. When they returned i'm sure they figured out i was the owner as they went around the block and unloaded all the employees along with their take out lunches. I then spoke to the owner who also lied to my face about the situation, trying to cover their obvious error in judgement. Needless to say although the garage may be convenient they aren't getting another dime from me, any of my family, anyone i know or any co-workers.
Most of the cars I've owned aren't the most expensive on the road, but they are usually nicer then the standard commuter or car at a garage and usually much cleaner! So before i had a regular shop that i dealt with i was always torn leaving it for service dirty and the possibility that they might wash it (doing more damage) or leaving it with them clean and someone might want to take it for a ride.

I service my car self as well, no turbo means no hassle solid engine, so I can see paying someone else to do what is very simple. Also, I have a green Jetta, not silver.

Turbo definitely can mean more hastle although it also means tons of potential for horsepower increase. My shop is also the local authorizes shop for GIAC tuning, which i have as well.
Sorry my bad about your Jetta. My memory is slipping apparently. I just took a second look. We definitely didn't have that colour offered in the NA market.
My floor is made by Race Deck, its called their Free Flow design which does have an overall textured feel. As far as keeping it clean its pretty easy. Anything that falls through can be cleaned up with my shop vac and then a quick mop if necessary brings it back to new.

HAHAHA, nope that would be too busy. The floor and items within my tiny space do the talking and the walls just help to balance it out.
Thinking you should add some fuchsia to the cabinet doors in your space, to really enhance them, they are begging for some colour
that's funny ****.... my walls would beg for color if I could see them... lol
OMG IM LMFAO.... I did this before GJ, now I use GJ to justify all the years I did that. Now my wife walk in garage and sees my staring at something and will say " whats up..." I just say " I get idea...." She'll say " What now it looks fine" LOL

Then you just have to pop out this piece.
At this point you can install the plate directly into the tow hook location that is behind that grill.
I had previously done a little DIY where i painted the OEM tow hook that can be found in the trunk and modded the grill to be able to install it with the grill in place. Normally you would need to have the grill off as it would hit. However if you cut out the center vertical bar of the grill you will be able to have the tow hook installed and still have the grill in place.

If you need to have a front plate and you either don't have the holes or are planning to do some work to get rid of them (my case) this is a great option. Solid piece for sure. I had thought that i would need to be constantly adjusting it but i haven't touched it since I put it on.

I'm guilty of this too. Sometimes I find if I'm left alone to work in the garage I'll spend the first half hour or more sitting there 'envisioning'. My wife knows this, still loves me just the same haha.

I think I want a front plate bracket on my new Subaru Tribeca. I do have a hidden tow fixture somewhere in the front like you show. The dealer offers a plate and it is attached with drilled holes in the facia. However if you later want to lose the front plate, your dealing with those holes. Might do something like you show in the posts!! Thanks

Finally received my euro front rub strip so i didn't waste any time and got at it.
Easiest approach is taking the whole bumper off.
Then i popped the old strip out. New strip is shown in the front for a comparison.
And the result.
I've never used Plasti dip before but i'm going to try and use it to do the rear as it is a similar end look. If i do it right at least lol...
