If your going to study aerodynamics you should start with chicken wings. It pairs well with the fluid dynamics

Hmm would that fall under consuming culinary enhanced domestic fowl with savory sauces?

I’m absolutely IN!!! I love these types of courses.

Come on down....!

Duke that looks pretty darn good!

It’s getting there....

As an aside... the coffee mugs and hats came in.... still waiting on the T-Shirts...

Not sure if I did the color and style of the hats but I like the cups...

Duke, what's new?

John, been busy with work so shop time has been limited but getting close to having the metal shop walls done this weekend and the following weekend I start moving in equipment into the wood shop! I will post a few pictures this weekend. It will be a short weekend for work as my son and I are taking a forging class on Saturday. It was his choice of birthday gifts!

I finally finished putting up all of the plywood in the metal shop and started the “Fun” task of priming and painting the walls.

3edb1f6a77b7175b19a031bf3af1280c.jpg

3ccc50ba35eb21fbf05ff3c9b7c27ef0.jpg

I also started to install some electrical boxes into the cutouts I made in the plywood. I ran into a small issue in that some of the wiring my electrician did was too short to install the boxes due to some retaining screws holding the conduit. My paws were to big to fit in the cutout and a wrench and ratchet was taking way way to long due to the short throw. I sure as hell didn’t want to take the plywood back off so I wandered over to my tool box to do some serious “Strategerizing” on what to do when i spotted a tool I bought just because it was gimmicky and it was too cheap knowing I would probably never use it. A Kobalt expandable twist ratchet.

Popped on a socket on and away I went twisting the screws out. Sure there was other ways I could have done it but for once I got my money out of an impulse buy! It’s the little things that can make your day.

Looking forward to this weekend as the shop is in the downhill stretch to getting done!

Good thing you had that "gimmicky " tool.

Looking at your work, I am concerned that you might not have enough outlets....

I have plenty of those type of tools, might use once but that one time made it worth every penny.

It was nice to have a three day weekend. I spent Saturday helping a friend build a stand out of stainless steel for an art piece for his wife. That took most of the day so I went to work again on finishing up the priming of the plywood walls. I would like to thank the SOB who decided to put multiple stickers on each sheet of BCX plywood. Actually I am more ticked at myself for not taking the time to remove them when they were laying at ground level on some saw horses, but alas that’s what happens when you get in a rush to get things done.

7f81efbe70d4b6f283ae8a68833a1902.jpg

I still need to come back and do some caulking and touch up painting. on the seams but the south wall is done.

b64ac29dd96ba46a2fd90bb5667cd26f.jpg

The next part is just for John aka “Casmurbax”.... I finally got the compressor hard wired! I had been operating it on an extension cord for months. I also added an indicator light to the cut off switch so that I could see if it was still on when leaving the shop.

fafb8a23dfce1a12778610767372f5ef.jpg

I was also able to hook up temporarily the auto drain until I can get the installation of my “driveshaft” and desiccant filters plumbed into the line activated by the drain.

The last item which made my day was plugging in my openers for the roll up doors and now pressing the remote or just touching the button to raise and lower the doors versus using the chain. I forgot how quiet the pantheon door openers were... i felt like a little kid raising and lowering the doors.

Duker, it's been a bit since I've checked on your progress. Everything looks great, I really like the look of the walls and floor in the wood shop.
Especially nice to see your son is doing well.

Duker,

Wall looks great, I was wondering what the white marks were, dam stickers.

Thankfully I can get a good night's sleep knowing you finally hard wired that compressor in!

I am surprised that you don't have it tucked in a room though, or is it in a part of the shop that won't be running as much, when you are in that area working?

Maybe I missed it, what did you paint did you put on the plywood?

Did you make the feet for the compressor?

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Shorty, I have ordered some sight glasses (for the desiccant) and a manifold for the collection lines so hopefully that will all go together in a couple of weeks. I need to build two as I need one in the woodshop as well.

Thanks for dropping back by Jay. I am loving the woodshop right now as the pine smell is off the charts. It will fade over time but it is starting to look, feel (and smell) like a shop!

My son is doing great and in fact just moved into his new apartment so my wife and I are empty nesters!

John, I thought about building a shell around the compressor but it’s actually pretty quiet when it runs so for now I am holding off.

The paint we used came from my neighbor at the Barn as his wife has a paint and flooring store. It’s Ferrell Calhoun and it rolls beautifully. It would have been easier to spray but I didn’t want to cover everything up as I still have other projects to get done so it’s all by hand.

6666ccb3c6ebc8a663274247a2f9d25a.jpg

The base on the compressor I made. The compressor came with these huge square 1” thick rubber pads to use to mount permanently to the floor which I didn’t want to do so I made the stand and use the pads there.

Thanks Mike I can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel and this time I don’t think it’s the train! Even though I am still working on the shop the projects (outside of painting) have been fun and make the shop more useful which you have shown us makes it much more enjoyable to use.

Duker, any updates?

Hey John & Shorty, sorry I didn’t see these until now. I have been working from the barn this past week but unfortunately the only project has been a sprinkler system for my better half’s yard and plants. I did finish all the wiring in the metal shop and have squeezed in a few minutes here and there on my metal storage rack. I will post some pics over in the project thread.

Glad to hear you're doing well Duke and completing some projects.

Thanks Mike... I did get the electrical done in the metal shop so I have finally begun to move some equipment into place in the machine shop side...

It is finally beginning to feel like a “Shop” and will help me in knocking out some projects for the wood shop. I still need to plumb for air versus using hoses to my air reels and paint some storage cabinets I have but I am finally on the downhill side!

what is these for?

That’s the remote switch to my rotary phase converter. I have one in the welding bay and one in the machine shop side. Keeps me from having to go outside to turn on and off the phase converter. Very handy!

Looking great D!

Looking good Duke. Love the electrical covers.

Thanks Mike, I have a bad habit of forgetting to put gloves so I ended up with wall plates at my old shop that even after cleaning looked grungy... I am hoping the stainless wears a little better.

I know how you feel....We have a contract but it’s contingent on them selling their house. With the lockdown in Houston I doubt anything is selling...

Thanks Duker, makes sense. Glad to see wall plates all match.

Thanks John, it’s not a big thing but I feel like I am making some progress....lol

I'm surprised that your old covers got so dirty. Mine in my last shop as well as my new shop are white and very rarely do I have to wipe one down and I do NOT wear gloves when working.

A little update on the a barn.... The sprinkler system install from a few months back is paying some dividends... even in this heat the grass is making a comeback and beginning to fill in where we had some bald spots.

I might have to put in some additional spigots in the yard as my wife is still dragging a hose around to water trees she planted.

SS outlet covers are a great way to go. Looks like you’ll have a nice line of equipment along that wall.
Great your son has found a new passion. How’s he doing by the way?

Barn and yard is looking great. Looks like a nice place to hang out. Have a good ol’ fashion Texas bbq hoedown.

The place looks exceptional bud! All that gorgeous green grass.....very inviting. I finally got the wife to hire some professionals to deal with my yard in Cali and in the last couple months it’s really come back into shape and looking sharp again.

Now I can’t wait to finish up this move and start on the Arizona landscaping. Yezzzz sir, I’ll have brown rock, gray rock, red rock, sparkly rock, dull rock and maybe even some hard rock with one cactus.

I can’t wait to take care of the new place :)
