Are you using the induction forge to heat treat or are you actually using it to forge?
I have seen some folks heat treat small hammers etc but the only heat treating and tempering I have done with it is punches. Makes quick work for W-1 tool steel. I mainly use it to forge railroad spike type size items and my son uses it for knifemaking. Its a godsend during the summer as it doesn't heat up the shop and its so fast compared to the propane forges.

Very nice!

Very nice! The plate under the Wilton, is that a adapter plate of sorts so if you decided on another vise? You do have other vises right? Or are you worried about the bolts holding in the 1” plate And wanted to reinforce?😜😜.

The tool holders are slick.
Craig, thanks! Oh and I have a few other vises! 😁

I couldn’t get to the bolts of the Wilton vise as the columns were in the way so I created the base plate with grade 8 studs welded into the larger base plate. I made both base plates to add a little character to the stand using the roundness of the Wilton for that one and adding rivets to the other mounting plate match the German vise.

Duker: your fab work has always been amazing and this new double vise stand is almost in the art category as well as functional.

Well done sir!!
Thanks Drives I appreciate the comment! I don’t know if I would put my work in the art category but I do enjoy the process!

So 2023 was/is my year to get organized. I figured with early retirement on the horizon it would be a good idea to finally get all of the boxes and **** I had laying around (with no place to put it) into some kind of storage. Unfortunately, my bosses knowing I am probably heading out the door have been squeezing every ounce out me for work so time has been scarce. However, to that end I have been spending most shop days painting and sanding. I purchased some 14 gauge cabinets awhile back at auction and have been making progress on getting them into useful condition. So far two down two to go...

The cabinets as they came from home...

The cabinets as they look now in the woodshop...

Slooooowly but surely getting there but still along way to go...

Drives, these were all Lyon cabinets. I had a Stronghold cabinet in my garage at our old house and the folks who bought the house wanted it so it stayed. The Stronghold cabinets are a beast!

Duker,

Nice job on the cabinets.

I like the floor and walls as well.

Where are you catching all these auctions?

John
John,

Thanks, hopefully soon I will post some pics of the woodshop but it is a giant mess since I moved full time to the Ranch and just shoveled everything into the shop from the storage units.

As for the auctions, we have had a lot of downsizing in industries related to the oil patch so most of the auctions have been companies like machining and service companies selling off assets around Houston. I have gotten some pretty good deals on equipment but especially tooling for the machine shop.

@casmurbax not Duker, but www.bidspotter.com is a good source industrial type auctions. It’s sort of a clearing house for few of the bigger auction houses.

You can search the entire site for items or a specific auction.

Ron
Bidspotter has been a good source of some auctions! I scrounge threw about 10 sites when I have free time to see what's coming up on the calendar. In fact there is a nice selection of woodworking stuff coming up outside of Dallas next week that I have been pondering about bidding on! :)

Yeah I can’t complain about the shop situation as I am fortunate to have what I do but I think the writing is on the wall…I have been pulling 12-15 hour days and it has been frustrating to now live full time on the Ranch and yet have less time to play in the shops. My better half would like to do some traveling so I think this will be the year…! I need and excuse to travel to see your new digs as well as some other folks shops around the country!

Thanks Duker and @rvieceli for the information.

Looking forward to seeing the shop.

Duker, how are you and son doing on forging?
Chris has been doing some Damascus billets in prep for some knives he wants to build. I have not done much other than take a class at the Texas Blacksmithing Conference in late January. I have had very little shop time so most of it has been spent on storage.

Chris was in the shop today so we worked on finishing up the frames that will house the Rousseau drawers for the wood shop. I did the fit up and he did the welding. Two frames completed that will have two sections each of 6-8 drawers.

Two more things to add to the painting list but they will be great to have to organize the shop.
