Dunlap 1/4 HP Grinder Questions

I just picked up a Dunlap (Sears) 1/4 HP 6" grinder from CL. Figured I'd have to get a vintage grinder sooner rather than later. :) Pics below: It seems to work well, has the original grinding wheels even! Glass has seen better days but isn't cracked.

Couple questions:

I'd like to disassemble/clean/lube/etc... but I can't seem to get the flanges off behind the grinding wheels. There aren't any set screws, c-clips or the like holding them on. Anyone have a suggested method of removal? I tried a small puller, but put a bunch of tension on one side and was getting worried I'd bend the pot-metal flange.

I'm guessing it's from 1953 based on the code shown in pic 3?

Any suggestions on a color combo that's period specific? It looks like it is original paint, was possibly 2-tone with the center being slightly different color.

I had the same problem with those flanges. It's a very common issue with the pot metal pieces. They get tightened and compress onto the shafts. On the fan end, I pulled the end cap, guard and flange together. On the terminal end, I had to use a very thin screw driver to remove the guard screws. Then, with a puller on the guard, removed the flange and guard together.

Thanks FrankLee! That thread is great! I don't really see how to get the shield off with a thin screwdriver as there isn't enough room; but I'll keep working at it.

Hey Franky. I know I’m a couple years late but where did you hook the puller to?.?
To take off the end cap, guard and flange together. I don’t want to mess anything up.
I hope someone sees this and can help a rookie out. Thanx

IIRC, I hooked the jaws of the puller to the outside of the wheel guard. Before doing that, check this post: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=8340916

If you try that technique I used, use extreme caution and don't use gloves.
