Duralast Flex Head #73-871

Ive head alot of good things about duralast ratchets so i figured id grab a new 3/8 flex head today for $22. It is perfect size and feels good in hand it tends to have less "slop" in the ratcheting mechanism compared to like priced ratchets (craftsman). Does anybody on here have any experience with them? comments?

I have their standard 3/8 and really like it. I plan to get some other sizes in the future. It's probably the best feeling ratchet I've used.

Many past discussions on these here. I love mine for what it is. It's a workhorse, but these days I still grab my FLF80 98% of the time when needing such a contraption.

Yeah their taiwanese stuff is usually great. Just hate walking into autozone. I seem to always get attitude from the staff when I just ask for a blind part based on the stock number not the model of car. I know what plugs I need bro, I don't need your database lookup "expertise"; it can be like that with most modified applications.

most of my tools are duralast and i love them. I only use my tools on my personal vehicle maintenance, so they do not get used much. Then again I have one duralast ratchet for 8+ years still works like new.

I'm usually impressed.

A large majority of customers where I work are to a large degree uninformed.

"what do you mean i have to know my engine size?!"

Ill have to go check these out. Is it the one with the comfort grip as well? Those look pretty neat.

Im making a list of what i need at AZ...

1/4 SAE/MET deep and shallow

3/8 SAE/MET deep and shallow

all for like 84 bucks. I can dig it. Trying to hit the 100 mark for the 25$ coupon.

That's in separate purchases, right? :dunno: I spent $264 on a fuel pump and seem to remember getting 1 point towards the discount...

After reading reviews on this forum, i picked a Taiwan 3/8 flex head with reward points. Used it to change the pita plugs on my ford freestar. Not a real test but real enough for what i'll use it for. Best free purchase I've ever made. I'd rather have a comfort grip handle but can't complain. This was my first flex head and now I can't be without one.

Sure i'd love a duel 80 but the kids grown accustomed to eating everyday.

I work on my cars to save money not spend it. One day it will be a hobby instead of a necessity (and will not include a freestar), then I'll welcome the fancy stuff.

Btw, AZ reward program does tick me off a bit. Spend a couple hundred in parts and get the same amount of points as an oil change kit. That said i will definitely keep buying free tools from them.

Just as good as a Snap on FLF936. I love mine.

When I read this I immediately think of Mr Holeshot (RIP). I bought one because of his reviews of the 3/8 flex head. Also; there is a spring mod somewhere on here to make it a little smoother if you like.

Careful with sets man, if you don't like them then you're stuck with them. That having been said...if they still have the taiwanese sets they're supposedly pretty good. Probably even the chinese stuff is okay for moderate use I just can't justify the cost when there's better stuff cheaper.

They have impact stuff and it is very good in my opinion (not cheap though). Most of the stuff I have from them is impact. Takes a (well-intentioned) beating.

The current Duralast sockets are nothing special. You are better off getting HF sets and saving some $. Now the older CR-MO sets were realty nice, but those have been gone for a long time.

For import socket sets it's hard to beat Gearwrench right now in my opinion.

Why go there then? Don't you have any old school auto parts places to go?

The Taiwanese made ratchets are very solid. I don't buy much non-USA stuff but I wanted to try these and beat on them. They have held up great in all honesty.

Here's a thread with more info.

A lot of people here complain that they stopped selling the "good" ones. But multiple people in this thread point out that they didn't stop selling the good ones. They claim the supposedly "bad" ones are only included in some sets.

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=125780

When I got mine last month, all of the open stock looked like the old (Taiwan) style but at least some of the the kits said China. I didn't look too close though.
