Anyone use a Dust Deputy or similar product with their shop vac? Looks cool, but do they work as good as they claim? Filter bags are e pensive so if it can save me from having to replace e them as often, I'm all for it.

They are great but awkward. I added a mount to my shop vac for mine but its still always in the way it seems

I have the metal Dust Deputy in my shop mounted to a dedicated 30 gallon heavy poly container on wheels. I have a diy central vac system in the shop powered by a commercial true 15 amp vac head. A 5 gallon bucket fits in the bottom of the 30 gallon container making it easier to dump. The Dust Deputy catches everything and drops it in the 5 gallon bucket including everything from metal chips from the machines to sawdust. Absolutely nothing makes it to the vac head mounted on another 30 gallon container across the shop, the 5 year old filter still looks brand new. Dust Deputy’s work!

I have 1 of the 5 gallon ones ( top & fittings) you supply the bucket. Worked well to clean up wood lathe chips & made filters last longer. It does take up some space & is something else to empty. A few years ago I started using pool filter socks over the vac filter & just change them every time I dump the vacuum. At the price of shop vac filters, both methods save you money.

I have some of the Thien baffle types, which also work well. Both the Home Depot Duststopper, as well as other from Amazon.

Could fill a 5gal bucke with fine dust, and still read the manual at the bottom of the vac I forgot to take out.

I have the Home Depot version that locks onto a five gallon bucket and it's money well spent. I've heard that the Dust Deputy works better but can't verify that. Mine only gets used in the winter, on Saturdays, when I clean out the pellet stoves but I've gone from having to clean the filter weekly to about every six weeks. I was going to get the Dust Deputy, but decided against it because of the height, I didn't want to have to be constantly reaching over it.

If you do a lot of woodworking, absolutely. I DIY closets and the amount of sawdust that gets generated cutting plywood is unbelievable. I bought a Bosch HEPA vacuum on Black Friday and coupled it to a static dissipative cyclone from Cen-Tec. Static dissipative is important if you handle the vacuum hose a lot since static builds up and can shock you. These setups are cumbersome so I built a cart on castors that is tall and takes up less floor space. The vacuum has an automatic on/off outlet that I extended with a 20A extension box. I plug all of my tools into the extension box and have quick connects for each tool. Moving the hose from tool to tool is easy with the quick connects. Results? I just finished a large closet and the cyclone barrel was 1/2 full with sawdust. The prefiltration bag and HEPA filters look brand new.
