I was planning on getting the gable end completed this past weekend, but I spent to much time screwing around with other things.
I was able to finish the fascia and get up to about 16' with the siding.
It is definitely slow going when you are running up and down the ladder at that height and having to make two angled cuts on every row.

Yeah, the end of the shop siding is near, but then I have the whole rest of the house to do....
That probably won't see much progress until next spring.

Since the weather has been so warm and nice, yesterday I took the day off from work so that I could work on the siding.
I was able to get the siding finished on the gable end. Then I moved on to the window trim and I was able to get the two lower windows done. I used a Kreg jig to create pocket holes and assemble the entire frame before attaching it to the house. This way I have nice tight connections between the trim pieces and I should not have worry about the trim twisting or moving.
I was also able to get all of the trim cut and fitted for the upper transom style windows, but I ran out of pocket hole screws, so I was not able to get that mounted yesterday.
It was my first time using the Kreg, that things works really nice. I am also very happy with how quick and easy the Cortex fasteners work for attaching the vinyl trim.

I was able to get the rest of the trim finished around the transom windows, now the gable wall is done (no pictures yet). I also started working on the last wall, which has the garage door, but I did not get much done.
The rest of the weekend was a bust because of the weather, high wind and rain. So, I moved indoors, I decided to hang some peg board above the work surface, so that I could keep some really common tools within grasp without having to go over to the tool box. I decided on Wall Control pegboard, which also has a slot which you can use a special Wall control hanger that locks in to the board. Fairly nice stuff and made in the USA too.

I'm still missing a few major components to make it fully functional. I need to order and install a heating system, I'm probably going with a DIY mini split.
I also need to get a compressor, right now I am getting by with my little portable, but it's really not up to the task.

Sorry Magneto, I don't have any plans for either in the immediate future.
I do have a mini fridge I could move out there. I could also see a TV out there at some point, maybe after I retire one from in the house.

My shop may look pretty, but it will definitely be a working garage.

I was able to get some more siding done this weekend. Finished the back wall and almost finished the trim around the garage door. I ran out of the specialty trim screws, so I still have a little more work. I also have to install the door seals and then finally I can install the garage door carriage hardware.
I intended to finish the lights, but I forgot about them while I was doing the final row on the front of the house.
I also forgot to put the downspout back on.

Thanks 1/2 cup. I will need some asphalt work done in the spring. I have the cut across my drive where power company insisted they drop my new 200 amp service line. I have the gap between the drive and the new garage and I also have the area along side of the garage that I use to turn around and for visitor parking. With a driveway that is 500 feet long, you definitely want an easy way to turn around up by the house. Backing all that way is a pain.

I had election day off so I was able to get a few more things done. I was able to get the lights installed. The lights are motion sensor units that operate dusk to dawn on the sensor, nice feature to have. I have them on there own separate switch but I doubt I will ever turn them off.
I was also able to build and install the front window trim.
I just a few things left to button up and the exterior will be done. I have the door seals to install and the carriage door hardware. I also need to install the rest of trim screws I ran out of the other day. I also need to put siding on the return wall in the front, it's only six feet long so it won't take long. I have to remove both layers of the old siding where it connects to the old garage, which likely will take some time and probably be a pain. Normally I could just rip it off, but we are taking out a home equity loan to remodel our 1950's kitchen and we can't have any exterior signs of construction, at least that is what the bank tells me.

This weekend I was able to get a few more things done. First I messed around inside the shop. I decided where to put my last two upper cabinets. I put them over by the metal working equipment. That area is also my temporary dumping ground for all on my tools and hardware for my exterior work. I also cut the extra track off of my garage door track so that it does not project as far into my 12' tray. It was another good opertunity to try out my new portable band saw. Man that thing works nice.
Then I moved outside where I installed the rest of the trim screws on the trim, installed the garage door seals and installed the carriage door hardware.
I just have the short return wall out front and I will finally be done with the exterior of the shop.
I also just ordered some bicycle wall mounts this week. I will be hanging two of my old stingray bikes up high on the common wall above the metal working stuff.
I think that will make that high tray area more interesting and it will let me enjoy my old Schwinn bikes on a regular bases.

I find that I work with my blinkers on at times and tend to concentrate on one thing at a time and finish it, I am not real great at having to multi task when I am building some thing but you seem to do it well.

I often choose my job of the day by the weather. I know I need to finish up the outside work, but if it's cold or raining I will switch gears and see what I can work on inside. We will see if I can stay motivated throughout the winter months. Last year I hardly got anything done.

twiedman, just keep plugging away at it.

I have to admit the weather can be a huge factor in what you do.

We have had some cracker days out here of late and that really gets you motivated to get out of the shed and into the garden, hence projects wait..

One of my wall mounts came in the mail yesterday. I brought one of the old stingrays out of the basement and cleaned it up. Then I hung it up on the wall with my new mount. I don't think these brackets were designed to hold up these old heavy bikes. I'm a little worried about it's ability to hold the stingray up there and this was the lighter of the two I was planning to hang.
I will need to make a bracket to reinforce the mount. I wish I would have known this from the beginning, I may have just fabricated a mount rather then buying these.

I was able to get some time to work on the shop over the Holiday. With the weather turning colder, I figured installing the door between the shop and the garage had waited long enough.
No more going outside to enter the shop

I should have done a lot more on the shop but other projects were calling. The other thing I was working on was fire wood. I used up all my wood last year and I did not get a chance to cut any yet this year. I kept putting it off thinking I might get a log splitter, but I finally gave up on that and split a bunch by hand.

We have a combination of radiators and radiant floor heat which is really nice. However, we also have 3 fire places, one with an insert that is fairly efficient.
We also have 6 acres of woods out back. So, it seems silly not to supplement our heat with the free fuel in the back yard.

Not much new in the shop. My wife wanted a craft and sewing table for , so I cleaned up the basement and built this table for her. I also added some LED lighting and additional outlets too.
She is happy.

This past weekend I made a bit more progress on the shop. I finally put together my welding table. I added an old roll cabinet to store my welding stuff.
It's on adjustable height locking casters to that I can move it around.
When the weather gets warmer I will add some paint to the frame and maybe repaint the box since it really doesn't go with my color scheme.

I finally have another update, I just got my driveway done.

The contractor seemed to do a really good job. We ended up hiring the same guys that did the driveway originally when it went from gravel to paved 30 years ago. The old drive and parking area held up really well and if it wasn't torn up from the construction and the new service line I probably would not have messed with it.
Boy does it look nice now that it has been redone.

Thanks guys, I have not been doing all that much in the shop, no big projects.
Just few oil changes and tire rotations. I put new plugs in my wife's Caddy.
A few bicycle repairs.

The other thing I have been working on is insulating the ceiling. I only did the hard to reach places before drywall, so now I am finishing up the rest of the R-38, a couple of bundles at a time. I think I will need about three more packages of R-38 to finish that job up. I still have to do the common wall as well.

I also painted the welding table legs black and I want to paint that red box, that goes in the table, grey to match the rest of the shop, but I haven't got to that yet.

This past weekend I got the radial arm saw back out so that I could continue with the siding. I only had one small section to complete in order to finish the exterior of the shop. It took a lot longer than I had figured because of all the running up and down the ladder and angled cuts. I almost got it done when I ran out of J-channel.

I decided to switch gears and strip the next section of the existing house so that I could start siding. Three layers to remove: 1980's steel siding, Styrofoam insulation, 1950's cedar siding. I got to the breezeway, which was closed-in right before the steel siding as installed, and I found all kinds of rot. I was really not expecting this, I guess it's a good thing I decided to replace the siding on the whole house.

It appears the wall was layered out over the years with various siding but no attempt to widen the window sill. Glad you found it. Repair is not complicated, we all seen your skillset.

Two weekends ago I was at dog shows the entire weekend and got absolutely nothing else done. My dog did get points both days, so it could have been worse.

This past weekend I did get some time to work on my siding project. One step forward and two steps back.
I removed all of the foam insulation and all of the cedar siding. I also removed all of the rotted plywood on the breezeway section.
After cleaning up all of the mess I discovered that the framing in the breezeway is also shot and needs to be replaced. Since the one window is cracked and we need to remove the window to re-frame, we decided to get rid of the window completely so that we can install a door like the house originally had. We will also install two windows on both sides of the door.

Removing the cedar also brought to my attention that the soffit was too short. The aluminum soffit was installed at the same time as the steel siding and was only extended to that point, which is now two inches too short. I did not get a picture, but I did get all of the aluminum soffit ripped down and the new vinyl installed.

As noted in my previous post, I ran out of J-channel and I have been waiting for the new stuff to be shipped to me. The shipper called Friday to tell me that they wanted to deliver Monday. Which would mean another weekend without finishing the gable end. So, I decided to pick it up from the shipper on Friday evening. I hit a deer with my truck on the way there and when I got there the box was ripped open and some of the J-channel was damaged. The shipper failed to tell me that when they called.

I was able to get few more things done this weekend. I finally finished painting my welding table and got that back together.

I shot a picture of the finished gable I did a few weeks back.

I removed my vinyl soffit and added some vent holes then installed a mixture of solid and vented soffit. I also removed the replacement window in the old garage and then the frame from the original window. I wrapped that section in house wrap but then realized I couldn't put the new window in because I didn't have any flashing tape.
