I was able to get all of the lower cabinets mounted this past weekend. After I got them mounted on Saturday I realized that my measurements were off and the sink was going to be off center from the window by 1.5 inches. Sunday morning, I took all the cabinets back out and then re-cut the flooring so that I could shift the cabinets over that 1.5 inches. Then, I had to remount, shim and level all of the cabinets again. Now my counter where the cooktop will located will be 1.5 inches wider, and I don't have use a filler board. After I finally got everything in its final position, I installed a bunch of the doors and drawers.
I'm ready for the counter top guys to come and template, which should happen around Wednesday. I also mocked up the island in the basement, I hope to have that installed this coming weekend.

I had a few extra minutes last night to install the new dish washer. Wow is this thing quiet, so much nicer then the old one.
I also was able to get a few door pulls/handles installed.

tweidman looking fantastic..

What sort of counter top are you getting??

Regards

Quartz counter tops. Two different colors/styles. The perimeter counters will be an off white with some tan and brown swirled in, the island will be a gray-ish, with a bunch of other colors.

We started out saying we would go with Granite because it is a lot cheaper, but after looking at our choices, we ended up picking the Quartz. :headscrat:dunno:

We put the deposit down yesterday. They come out to template Monday and install Wednesday. The race is on to get the island built before Monday.

I just became a member and just started my garage nothing this awesome. Being that I live in Chicago. All we get is a two car garage and some are lucky to get a side parking spot as well. Love your overall layout

Do you have a farm sink? This will be our first, my wife really wanted one.
I wasn't to sure about the hammered copper, but it will be more her kitchen than mine.

While we don't have a "farm" sink, we do have a large single compartment SS sink. My wife and I love it. When we had the old fashioned two compartment sink, we rarely used one of the compartments. The larger single compartment is great for cleaning those larger pots and pans.

Enjoy!

I was able to build/install the island this past weekend. I also got all of the plumbing pre-fitted so that I won't have to mess with any of that stuff once the counters are installed. I was not able to get the hutch for the refrigerator completed, but I was able to get the one side installed for the template guys.
Speaking of template guys, they were out this morning and did their work. They were happy with the cabinets and sink support. The install guys will be back Wednesday for the install. :bounce:

tweidman nice, real nice in fact...

Thanks 1/2 cup and the others who have commented.

My wife should definitely be happy with this kitchen, it's the nicest one we have ever had. A ton of work for me, but I think it was worth it in the end. I just need to button up a few things this weekend and it should be fully functional again.

Some more progress pics from this past weekend. It may not look like too much has changed but I have another full two days of work into it.
Saturday, I started by hooking up some more of the appliances. I wired in the cook top and finished wiring that circuit in the panel. While I was in the panel I finished the microwave circuit too. I then hung the microwave and got it working. While I was messing with electric I got the outlets in the island installed and working. I also finished installing all the door and drawer handles. My math worked out, I ordered 60 handles and used 59, just as anticipated.

My wife started loading up the cabinets and getting things organized this weekend too.

Sunday, we took a break and went and shopped for some stools and kitchen stuff. (My shop stool is not staying)

Monday I finished the hutch for the refrigerator. That made more of a difference than I was expecting, it really adds to the custom look (IMHO). I lucked out with how the end panel met with the cherry wood on the wall. I did not have to cut the cherry, as the panel matched right up to the last piece of cherry wood on the wall. I though sure I was going to have to make a cut.

Last on the "to-do" list: I need to repair and paint the ceiling and install the new Hickory floors. I may actually hire out a couple of things that are left too. We need a tile back splash and there is a tiny amount of wallpaper that needs to be done. I would normally tackle those jobs, but I think I may not be happy with the quality of my work, since I have barely done either of those things before. :dunno:

Tiling not as hard as you think. Most everything is available pre mixed from adhesive to grout. If you can hang cabinets you can tile.

I have tiled a couple of bathroom floors, my main concern is that it's done really well. This will be something I will be looking at every day and I would like it done to a very high standard and I'm not sure my rookie tile job would meet my standards? I have a buddy that does this type of work, I am checking with him to see if he can fit me in.

I had my friend do the back splash. The pictures don't show the colors very well, but it really adds some visual interest. It also ties in the other colors of the kitchen, such as the cooper and cherry wood tones.
Now my wife is thinking the white outlets and switches stand out too much, so she may have me switch those out, but I'm not sure what color? :headscrat :dunno:
I started patching the ceiling, but I need to finish that up. I still need a valance and some panel ends so I am also picking up those cabinet pieces tomorrow morning to finish things off.

We decided to go with brown outlets and switches and oil rubbed bronze wall plates. We ordered them this past weekend and we are waiting for their arrival.

I also picked up stuff from the cabinet place on Saturday. I installed the valance over the sink and re-installed the blinds. I also added some decorative panels to the upper cabinets by the sink.
I also added the decorative panels to the end of the hutch for the fridge.
I ordered panels for the upper cabinets on the other side of the room, but somehow ordered 30 inch when I need 36. :dunno: :wtf:
One of those panels was damaged, so I should get my money back on one of them. The only damage I have had so far.

I really need to be working on getting the ceiling ready for paint, but I keep putting it off because I know what a mess sanding is going to make.

The outlets, switches and wall plates arrived and I got them all installed over the weekend. I guess it does look good, and it better, it cost me an additional $130 to switch all that stuff over to brown. (Coffee bar is open)
I worked on the ceiling all weekend. All my patch work looks good, but I still need to touch up a few spots. Also, you can still see where the old beams were mounted. I'm not sure why you can still see that? Maybe a third coat will make it disappear. :headscrat

This past weekend I also made some wheel holders for the stingrays. The front wheels would occasionally flop backwards due to the frame position. I fixed that by adding a heavy wire that holds them straight. I also finally got around to hanging up my tin signs.

I got a little side tracked with the house projects this week.
I have a long commute and so I have a beater that I use to pile the miles on.
It's not a very pleasant car to drive and I am usually wondering why I have two nice vehicles that sit at home most of the time (lease and truck) while I drive the cheap one.
So, this past weekend I changed that...
I have been looking at Audi for a while now, but have hesitated to pull the trigger. I found this older Avant A4 s-line with a 3.2L for a good price and it only has 50k on it.
I cleaned it up once I got it home, not that it needed much, it was obviously a well kept car. The main thing that was letting it down was the bright work. I don't think the picture really show the difference that well, but some polishing really fixed it up.
My commute is so much more fun now, this thing is awesome to drive. ;)
I hope this thing holds up and doesn't make me regret the decision, I'm not sure what to expect?. :dunno:

Along with the new car, my wife decided to volunteer us to watch our breeders puppies while she is showing out of state all week with her dogs and our youngest dog (Nickel).
OMG, they are a handful. It is impossible to keep track of 7 pups, but they are cute.

Hey, congrats on the new Audi. It really looks like it was well kept. You adding your finishing touches just made it that much better.

I was able to get a few more things done on the Audi this past weekend.
I mounted the new tag holder cover plate and then added a front splitter.
After that I cleaned up the rotors and gave them a fresh spray of silver.
My caliper paint just came in the mail yesterday, so I will see if I can get that done this weekend. Also, my tint guy is going to squeeze me in on Friday or Saturday.
