In a strange turn of events, I just signed a purchase agreement on a property that will become my home in year or three... I don't want to post photos or anything until I close. But I will say it has 30x60 shop with 1/2 bath and a 2 bedroom, 1 bath basement apartment. The apartment has windows on two sides so it's not a total cave. There are windows and enlarging or adding more is an option. Tomorrow is my birthday. So, it looks like I bought my dream home for my birthday!

Take some time and reflect back on everything you have done since your last Birthday.
Your shop has come a very long way. I would highly recommend a strong Micro Brew, maybe even 2 or 3. I always like checking in on your progress, thank you for sharing.

Congratulations and Happy Birthday!

Thank you for the message! I went back and looked over the last year in the shop. It's easy to get lost in this big of a project and lose sight of the progress. For a while now the shop has been a place I really enjoy being in. I get lost in here and forget about time, the day job.. all of it. That's a truly magical feeling.

As always thanks for checking out the shop and taking the time to comment guys!!

I am so excited about the new property!

Thanks guys!!

Snapped a photo this morning on the way to the shop. It's getting painted a dark grey prior to closing. Apartment is down the stairs on the right side of the building. I'll start a thread when it closes in a few weeks. Not much going to happen until I finish the full interiors on the shop schedule.

Used the paint booth for the first time last night. It's everything I thought it would be! Before photo of an old forklift seat I'm doing for a friend that loaned me his forklift a while back.

Primer went on really nice in the booth.

So, will it ultimately take the place of this building where you're doing all the renovations on now, or will you keep this one and the new place will be the 'home shop'?

Wow! Dream shop. I love every thing about it. I have 1 thing that I would have done different, but I'm just some random guy on a forum so what I think means pretty much zilch. lol
I would have left the laminate beam exposed, maybe sanded and stained it. My. $0.02.

I understand why guys say that about those glue lam beams. I'm really happy with the bright white paint. At some point I'll get the trim painted black on the inside. It's low priority for the time being.

Contractors stopped by tonight to walk the job of clearing the lot adjacent to the shop. Happy this is happening. I've been waiting for my turn on their schedule. Sounds like they will be on it Monday.

Forklift seat took the back burner for a minute. Back at it later today. When I pulled up to the shop this morning I found the locates had been done for the dirt work!!

Congrats on the new purchase. The additional building will certainly open up your options.

We car guys would willingly give up certain appendages for a 3 bay shop.Is it located nearby?

New building is a block away! I am so excited about the way it's all working out! Thank you for checking out my thread and commenting!

I am so excited I truly can't stop smiling!! Ran by the shop on break and saw this:

Abandoned basement seeing light of day for the first time since it was built in the 30's (I'm guessing when it was built).

Are they going to take out the block basement as well? Does not look all that sturdy. Do you have a plan for the mobile home chassis? What will you be doing with the vacant lot?

You are turning into a land baron.

I like the idea of living in an old shop with lots of space for toys. But just to warn you, if you ever get an intended she will love your digs until the ink is on the license. Then she will want a picket fence and a pitched roof, regular windows with shutters, a covered porch at the front door, etc, etc, etc.

Basement will be completely removed and properly filled. Contractor doing the work is simply amazing. No land baron or real estate guy here. Just a guy with a dream, doing what I can to improve the stuff I have so it will be around for a while. It's easy and understandable to criticize the run down properties here. I'm hoping to make it a little better place. I know I will smile ear to ear every single time I drive up. As far as a lady coming along that will get me to change what I'm doing... not happening. She has her house, I have mine ;)

It's so cool you've built this place and have the skills to do Demo-design-wood-metal-fiberglass-plastic-paint-laser, oh yeah and upholstery. Fantastic!

Seat came out nice.

People like you, the ones that like to rehab in run down areas, are called urban pioneers. With two buildings and a vacant lot you are certainly doing your part. Your enthusiasm seemingly has no end. Don't burn yourself out.

That seat came out great. I bet you now have a happy friend. Always a nice thing to be able to trade time effort and skills with friends.

Thanks for following along and commenting. I quickly adjust to things as they are built out in the shop and focus on what's next. As the tools and equipment are being put into service jobs like this get very satisfying. One of the unintentional things this thread is doing is giving people a glimpse into what custom upholstery work entails. It is so much more than "sewing". I love it!

Thanks for the kind words! The town is rather run down. It wouldn't take much to really make it all look a lot better. My aim is to make what I have presentable. I don't see me burning out.

Thank you! I could have bought him a seat for next to nothing. It was a lot of fun to run the one he had through the paces.

Awesome work!
