Every time it rains I get a bunch of water under my roll up doors. I replaced the door bottom seal. Then I added a 3/4" foam rod inside it thinking it would give the seal something to press on. Still water.

I bought some seal material a couple weeks ago. I saw a thread on GJ that helped with how to tackle installing it.

I made a chipboard template of the door track so I could fit it all the way into the track on both sides.



I cut the ends on the Delta bandsaw.



Then I ground the surface of the concrete to expose fresh concrete, thinking this would help the adhesive bite and wiped everything down with acetone.



This is the trick I saw on GJ. I taped the strip in position with duct tape and then folded it back like a hinge to apply the adhesive. It worked well. I folded the ends up and did the center first.



Time will tell if it works. Going to wait to do the other door until I see how this works out.

Congrats on acquiring the second lot. Just clearing that vegetation and getting rid of the foundation and trailer eyesores will really boost the curb appeal of your shop immensely. That compressor looks like a beast, I read up a bit on them and they seem to be a great setup. Your shop is really turning out awesome, I always look forward to the automated weekly update email of your progress.

The lot is just a lot of work and money. I know I'll be really happy with it when it clean, clear and fenced in.

The door seal is a generic of the Tsunami seal I got on eBay for about $40 shipped. It's rolled up when it arrives. I ordered 16' for my 12' door. I cut some off the ends to get the curve off. Worked out really well. All the did was the end cuts to fit into the door track at the floor.

Been getting the air system plan together. I have a 100' 3/4 FastPipe kit and two 100' 3/4 MaxLine kits. The FastPipe is for a couple of exposed, visible long runs. The MaxLine is for the rest. I got some deals online on a ReelCraft reel and two Coxreels. Ordered a few more bits today after I laid out the fittings on the bench.

Used a 40% off Black Friday discount to get this guy. Saved over a grand on it! Made in the USA Trinco blast cabinet. Small open face paint booth and floors are the only big ticket items left.




Update on the door seals: they work great. Zero water under them!!

SD: i bet you are looking forward to the day when you can just walk in the shop and start working? you are making GREAT PROGRESS and i can't even imagine how much all this is costing you even though you are very handy and shopping for deals.

nice work picking up the spare lot which i'm sure will come in very handy either as overflow parking, rental unit, living quarters or maybe an expansion for your current shop. so maybe possibilities that is for certain.

Nice work on the shop. Looks like it's shaping up to be a great space. When I built my shop I built small roofs over both large shop doors that extend out a little over 4', so I could leave the doors open when it rains, and as an architectural detail. With your sewing skills an awning of some type might work for you. Mike

Off work until after New Years. Going to enjoy some much anticipated R&R time this weekend and next. Wanting to get a lot done on the other days. I have a few more RapidAir fittings on the way and I should have all I need for the FastPipe/MaxLine installation.

Before I get to that I have to get Bay 1 painted. Lots to do there.. get the plywood on the stud wall I put up to support the mini split, demo the molded ceiling drywall and put up new insulation and drywall. Then final paint prep.

Once that's done I can set the compressor in place and run the conduit to it. Then the air piping. Hoping to make a big dent in that work on my vacation..

Need that motivation in the morning!!

First up today is to clean out the finishing room. It has been a place to shove stuff since I built it. I need to move the flam locker so the new blast cabinet can go where it's sitting. The old blast cabinet is going on Craigslist.

The finishing room will be storage for a few things until I get the spray booth. Assembled the new blast cabinet. It's a big upgrade over the one I had.

Are you doing any upholstery work now? I have a couple of aircraft seats that need to be finished. They are lite and easy to ship. Once the seats are fitted in my Model A coupe I want to get them padded and finished out. The job is yours if you want it.

I use Cadet Hot One heaters in the shop. I've had four for several years. I watched Craigslist closely and got each of them for $100. I needed two more. Cadet sells factory refurbished units on their website and eBay. Buying on eBay is free shipping for the same price as their website. Christmas gift to the shop (and me) was the additional two I wanted to keep it comfy when it gets really cold. They do a good job of it, are rather quiet and not bad to look at.

After the two new units arrived I realized how dirty some of the older ones are. Will be disassembling for cleaning next week.

I have four 4000 watt and two 5000 watt. They are my only heat when it's really cold. When it's above freezing or really sunny the mini-splits do well heating. These are good for 400-600 sq ft each. Ish.

I have the next seven days in my shop. First project is to build a shelf/loft 8' off the ground in the storeroom. It will be about 5' deep. This is for lightweight storage-upholstery foam and some shipping supplies and such.

I'm going to make it in two sections about 8' x 5'. 2x4 frame with plywood deck. I don't want exposed unfinished building materials, so I'll be painting prior to installation.

Not the most fun project, but it will be really useful storage.

First side will be finished first thing in the morning! Just waiting on the paint on the decking to dry overnight. Cleats on side wall and back wall up to the shelves. 4" screws into studs everywhere there is one. And 1.5" square steel from the side wall over the top of the shelving uprights. This makes the open span visible in the photo. No deflection with my weight on it. Working out really well for the intended use. Will be 5' x 15' x 33" storage shelf/loft.

Got the second half of the loft shelf frame up this afternoon. This thing is sweet. Much stronger than I initially thought.





I'll got the deck underside painted and installed tonight. Now to fill it with stuff cluttering up the shop!



I also got the leasing company to meet me in the middle on terms and ordered this guy today..



4' x 8' x 12" CNC router with 6hp spindle, 6 zone vacuum table, etc. it will be here toward the end of February.

Lastly, got this as an Xmas gift.. Huot 13175 drill bit drawer cabinet. Deal on Amazon was too good to pass up.

I mean no offense but why do most Upholster's seem to be flakes? I have had a set of seats at three shops and both are various states over the course of 2.5 years.

Very strange. I'm trying to get some Recaro's redone, it's painful. The guy that has em now is almost done after 4 months.

Painters aren't much different. My last paint job was 4 months. He let me know it was done. Well almost. When I got there my fairing was black as well as the trunk base. The bike/trike was red. How he got that wrong I have no clue. My painter in illinois always took forever also. Work was flawless.
