I have never purchased anything from Eastwood. However, I get their catalogs on a regular basis and I see many items that look exactly like the HF brands. Is this the same "Made in China" equipment that HF sells? or is some of it actually better quailty -- i.e., made in the US, Japan, or even Taiwan.

That's becoming true of a lot of places - Eastwood, TP Tools, Summit. They can't compete with HF prices so they join them. Twenty years ago Eastwood and TP catalogs were probably a quarter to a third of the size they are now and just the specialty items you couldn't find elsewhere - even then you could probably find them elsewhere but without the internet as it is now you had a much harder time finding them.

Eastwood does have a number of things that are better than HF quality, but you can often still find them cheaper elsewhere. But if it does look "exactly like" something in the HF ads it most probably is the same thing.

I used to work for Eastwood about 10 years ago. They sold high quality items then. They had a small catalog and sold the hard to get specialized items. They moved to Pottstown and it was too far for me to go along. Their owner hired a manager and they seem to have changed directions and sell everything now. I think thier overall quality has suffered. IMO.

I gotta say - I love Eastwood. Although they have increased the amount they sell and source it from different places now, that's business - people just won't pay for the better stuff. They do produce and sell some great, specific paints and tools that are needed for the restorations I do. As well, they seem to care about thier customers.
To bad I missed the sale too!

Eastwood never, ever has meaningful, substantial sales...

I always laugh when I get one of their catalogs in the mail with a giant "10% OFF!!" in big yellow letters on the front....OH MY GOD! WHERE'S THE PHONE!??!??

This latest one is a crackup...I'm supposed to jump out of my chair at a chance to save a whopping 12% off of something that is already priced well above market? AND I've only got one day to act, before midnight? and, In THIS ECONOMY?? ...Pfft.

Then they also have the Ba!!s to ask you to join a "frequent buyers club", which you pay for, in order to get marginally discounted shipping.

They completely fleece their customers on shipping as well, they always charge more than the actual UPS ground charges. And in many cases where you could have something small (like spray gun parts) shipped in a padded envelope via USPS, there isn't even that option...

Are you listening, Eastwood? Get a clue and realize that the car hobby is what people do with our discretionary income, which means we use the internet and shop around to make damn sure we find the best possible price, before we pull the trigger on anything.

Align your prices with reality, and people will beat a path to your door and you will grow the company tremendously...But...Maybe Eastwood just wants to stay small and this is how you do it?
