Just wanted to chime in about this. I been shopping for a compressor for my new shop and someone on here mentioned the polar air/Eaton compressor. Yesterday me and a buddy was headed right past there facility and decided to swing in. First off I was a little blown away at the place, I figured a lot more would be going on. The place was very laid back and although they were busy, they weren't to busy for us. I entered the showroom and saw about a dozen compressors sitting on the floor. When I entered the place a gentleman walked around the corner headed to do something and asked how we were. I told him what I was doing and I had read good things about your company and product. The gentleman quickly introduced himself as Matt, the owner of the company. He took us and showed us his newest compressor setup.

Now, onto the product. Matt showed us an 80 gallon 7.5hp compressor with there new patent pending whisper unit attached to the rear of it. He was telling me how quiet it was and how good it was which didn't tell me much, then he asked "do you wanna hear it?" Well hell yes, he wheeled it right out to the shop and hooked it up and let it run. This unit has a 2 cylinder V style compressor pump, a Lincoln motor, ASME certified tank, square D electrical boxes and a nice finish and craftsmanship to it. They have a heavy steel belt guard on the back shielding what appeared to be 2- ¾" heavy duty V belts. The pump is raised up off the base about 1.5 inches to allow air flow under the pump. This unit runs about 650 rpms and is less the 55db in noise level. When Matt cranked it up it ran very smooth and was unbelievably quiet. We were standing about 3 feet away discussing it while it was running full speed without raising our voices one bit. It pumped from 0-175 psi in 4 minutes. The unit comes with an electric moisture drain on the bottom, painted to any color you want.

The technical info. The tank is made in Illinois, they use a Lincoln pump, which has grease zerks on each end to maintain the bearing life. The pump is built overseas, Matt had no problem at all telling us that the pump was built offshore. He said they been using the same pump for 22 years and it's been proven and reliable. The parts come into there facility and they assemble and paint everything in house and ship out a completed unit. The pump has a cast iron body, cast iron head and jugs, cast iron rods with a bronze or brass (I forgot to ask) bushing in the piston end and a standard type rod bearing in the crank end. They stock all the parts for these units in house. The back of there warehouse was full of racks with parts for service needs. The unit carries a 5 year bumper to bumper warranty PROVIDED you buy and use there oil and air filters for the first 5 years. They want a paper trail to know that the unit has been maintained. Matt said anything in the first 5 years is covered, if the pump fails, they send a new one, if the motor fails they send a new one. He did say if a capacitor fails in the motor then we will send you that part. They help you diagnose it over the phone. Very easy.

Now, I didn't post this for a ******* contest. I've read bad online about this company but 99% of what I read is positive. I've read the same about other companies as well, Sanborn, champion and so on. There is negative everywhere about every company it is inevitable. I personally was blown away at the personalism that Matt offered and I'm strongly leaning towards there unit. At 2299 for the unit with the whisper. I think it would be hard to beat.

Any bad publicity they brought on themselves. They use to stick American flag stickers all over their compressors despite the fact that the pump and motors were Chinese. Then they went a step further to defend it because the tanks were USA made. When this was pointed out through forum discussion the owner went out of his way to, laughably I might add, threaten legal action if any bad PR wasn't removed. Import products are fine, especially if they're high quality. All the guy had to do was apologize for the misrepresentation and then keep quiet. Personally I wouldn't touch the products of any company that acts like that.

Not defending the owner but you read the same thread as me on another forum and IMHO that who thread opening is strictly hearsay. There was no physical evidence that that conversation ever happened that I saw. They do have American flags on them, but there is NOT an American flag on the pump and he never said it was made in the states. They say assembled in the USA, the tank has a flag, the belt cover has a flag. The pump has a label on it but I didn't look for the COO.

They use to put BIG flag stickers all over it. They've toned it way down since that debacle. I see no reason to not believe the "hearsay".

You can see in the picture of the one the flag under the pump and on the belt guard. I see no reason to believe the hearsay so I will buy from them until otherwise.

Pulled the file.....

Purchased an Eaton 7.5HP 80 Gal Vertical, Single Phase with Magnetic Drain ($1.780) and 5 HP Refrigerated Air Dryer ($595) on July 16, 2002.

Great purchase. Strong, quiet. Never had a single problem. Operates like the day I installed it.

Surprised. Did not think I had it that long. Like new.

For a few more bucks you could have had the real American made Saylor Beall that Eaton is a Chinese clone of.

I do not know your definition of a 'few more bucks', but unless you have a 2002 Saylor Beall price sheet, I would venture to say, you are mistaken.

Some cursory internet research for a similarly equipped Saylor Beall at $3,999-$4,699. The comparable Eaton model today is $2,049.

Without Saylor Beall a price sheet, and assuming a similar rate of price inflation, my $2,049 (2015) Eaton compressor which I paid $1,780 (2002) would have cost $3,999 (2015) and $3,475 (2002).

The Saylor Beall, $3,475, would have cost 95% more than my Eaton, $1,780. A little more than a 'few more bucks'.

And, I have had 13 years of flawless operation, and not a single non-maintenance item (filters and pump oil) expense.

Always someone that had to slur every post. I specifically said I didn't want this to turn into a ******* match. If I wanted a saylor beall I'd buy one.

Plus no where in the original post did I say anything about purchasing it while I was there.

Does anyone know if the refrigerated air dryer is available as a separate purchase item and if it can be added to a Quincy a/c? Thanks for any help.

I was going to buy an Eaton but it was at the time they changed over to the Polar Air branding and I got a little nervous about that. I should have just waited a little while longer to see how the new brand performed. I love my Quincy, it was just more money.

well, way more than just a few bucks and nobody would argue about which is the better unit but for me, a weekend wrench turner who only turns his compressor on a few times a week at most, a top shelf unit at nearly twice the price just makes no sense.

:monkey_pi "At 2299 for the unit with the whisper. I think it would be hard to beat." You made your statement for Eaton, I commented. You don't own the thread and if I have a different point of view I will say so. When you put your virtual advertisement out there on the interwebs you don't have control over what people say about it.

I am totally pleased with mine. I've had it about 4-5 years and all I've had to do is change oil and filters. I went to the showroom and picked mine up and I was very pleased with the service I was given, they had their sponsored drag car there that day doing some work to it, as I passed by I was invited to check it out, which I was happy to oblige!
