Be sure your trusses are designed for the eve dimension. I believe that at >X overhang length they will put one of the diagonals so it is just where the truss sits on the wall.

It is quite remarkable how large eaves prevent a multitude of issues starting at the foundation, moving up to the window sills and door thresholds and going right up to the eaves on all the siding.
Indeed. While my house has 24” eaves the kitchen was bumped out 24” so the kitchen had no overhang and it would ice dam. We did a minor Reno in 2000 and extended that section of roof-to have a12” overhang, stopping the ice damming. The kitchen window on that wall had been replaced due to rot. We figured that out during the reno

I did 24" on my garage build w/ 6" gutters and screens. Up a year now and the screens (from Lowes) have held up and kept things clean.

24" to be able to keep windows open while raining. If it is storming they are closed.

I just finished up the outside of my shop this spring, just need to get the gutters on. 32'x44', 2' overhang on the gable ends and 4' on the long sides (over the garage doors). Engineered attic trusses. The front at the garage doors is 12' to the eaves and even without gutters I don't get any mud splashing up onto the doors/siding when it rains. The back is about 8' to the eaves. I wanted the 4' overhang to store scaffolding/ladders/etc. Works great.
