For sale is a Dewalt Model 788 20” scroll saw with stand and several blades in tube holders. The saw has been used very little but has developed a "knock" or "Clatter". Everything I have read about the saw states that it is probably the tensioning draw rod hitting the top rocker assembly. Several websites list ways to fix the problem cheaply. The saw still works and cuts fine but the noise is irritating. Pickup only, no shipping.

I like the mechanics time saver approach to holding stuff but they aren't really cheap. You can also get some of these through Sears and use points on them. That is how I got a couple a good deal cheaper than here. - Paul

^ Well, that's curious, because I was just over at Sears at the Tacoma Mall about a week ago looking specifically for something to hold all those 1/4" hex bits I own, and they had nothing I found suitable for the purpose unless I wanted to buy a bunch of made-in-China bits that I already own.

They may seem a little spendy, granted, but based on the comments in another recent thread (HERE: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=321178&highlight=mechanics+time+saver ), and comparing the prices to competitive "holders" I felt it appropriate to post them here as well.

Yeah, you won't ever find them in Sears stores, but Sears sells all kinds of stuff through other sellers now online only, like Amazon does. It is online only you can get them. Shoot, you can buy SK sets of tools through Sears too (but I never saw any cheap there). I do like 4C the 1/4 bit set if you wanted such a thing. Thx as always for posting. Did not mean to imply bad in any way. Very good.

Picked up a 4 piece SK sae flare nut wrench set for $35. Now I need to find a metric set. Used, but they looked mint in the pictures.

From what I see on a quick Amazon search, the 3 piece sets are all around $50 and the 5 piece sets are like $70 to $85.

Thanks, I'm beginning to like the adjustable nut compared to the permanent rivet Channellock has in place. I would have gone with Wilde's Tongue & Grooves had I not already invested into Channellock's Tongue & Groove's pliers.

paul, I picked up an extra 1/4" KAL ratchet just because I liked the feel of it. I have a couple "Proamerica" 1/4" sets as well - exact same product, just has a different name on it.

MercLSU - I have a little bit of Craftsman - 1/2" drive metric and SAE sockets (mostly -V-) and several 1/4" drive socket sets - mostly -V- and =V=, and a couple earlier ones - BE and "circle H". I collect primarily Indestro, actually.

I own a set of Indestro Super SAE flare nut wrenches:



advantage: fairly bulletproof. disadvantage: ends are NOT angled, like some others.
only difference between the "Duro-Indestro" and my "Indestro Super" is that mine are satin finish on the shanks and the "Duro Indestro" are polished (and of later production.)

something about that "Grip" set screams "cheezy". I would hold off. I've seen sets of METRIC flare-nut wrenches listed recently for pretty reasonable prices but have not posted them because of their limited demand.
just hang loose - if it's not there today, it will be tomorrow or next week: I just grabbed a very rare ratchet an hour ago - only the second one I've seen on there in five months - sooner or later what you're looking for pops up.

well... actually.... yes, you do. because when you should be using a flare nut wrench, you should be using a flare nut wrench, not an open-end.
if you read through any of the many "flare nut wrench" / "line wrench" discussion threads here, you will note that the overwhelming majority opinion is buy the best one you can find.
I own a little Snap-on 3/8" x 7/16" flare-nut wrench and I can definitely see the advantage of having an angled head, but insofar as "durability" or "fitness for a particular use or purpose", I would put the Indestro I posted above up against Snap-on (or any make you care to name) any day.

Bottom line: don't go cheap-o. Those Indestro models I posted above sold for about $15 - $18 a pop new 40 years ago (when I bought them), so $20 for that NOS set off Ebay is a screamin' deal.
