I bought the entire contents of a 2 bay garage at an eBay estate sale last night.

There seems to be some decent tools, electric motors and a metric assload of screws, fasteners, etc there.

I'm headed over tomorrow to pick it up and see what I got.

Needless to say, I'll be spending some time in the classifieds section in the coming weeks since there's no way I need half of this stuff.

If I can end up with some nice tools and break even on the stuff that I don't need, maybe my wife will let me back in the house. :bounce:

nice score of fasteners! I got a good stash from a CL deal a year or so ago. About 40-50# worth.....still always on the hunt for another good deal!

No, an imperial standard assload is bigger than a metric assload. Compare the faces of walmart website to what you see in europe, and you'll understand why. :bounce:

$310, and I'll have to rent a small box truck to get it all home, so probably another $75 for that, plus I'll have to buy my wife dinner and some flowers.

I saw at least a couple hundred in tools in the photos they sent, so even if it doesn't up being an awesome deal, I think I'm pretty safe.

If the hand air pump has a brass sleeve and Ford logo you'll have half your investment back in one item.

It looks like it could take awhile to sort all this out so you know what you have - lots of work.

The auction said "everything". I'm hoping to even take the cabinets that are on the walls if I can get them down without damaging them. It's an estate sale through a 3rd party company, so I think they just want the stuff gone.. as long as I don't damage the walls or anything it's all mine. Tomorrow's going to be an adventure to say the least.

Sounds like fun ! I've never bought an entire garage but I like the idea. Just think...you get to explore the contents without having to race a ton of other buyers.

if the cabinets and shelves are attached to the wall, I think legally they are part of the house/garage and would not be included

Wow how did i miss that on nj cl??? very cool score i love stuff like that you will make some cash and get your stuff for free, i cant tell you how many times this old mans bolt bins has helped me when i need something, he was my buddys father who passed and he let me take a bunch of stuff, i thank that old guy every time. have fun!!

There was WAY more stuff than I anticipated.
I spent about 11 hours loading and unloading and there's still another 4-5 hours worth.

There's a few treasures and lots of junk.

What am I going to do with 250 lbs of 6 penny nails?

Not just a pair of hinges... 50 pair.
Not just a few receptacle covers, hundreds of them.
Band-Aid boxes of screws, tacks, bolts, etc... probably 500 of them.

Anyone know if there's scrap value in old hardware. There's so much I can't think of any other way I'll be able to get rid of it all.

Nice haul of "stuff" for very little money!! Another suggestion for disposal of large quantities of useful items would be try to contact a local "handyman" and see if he might want some of your hinges, nails, etc. that he would be able to use in the course of his business. Good luck.

At my work (recycling yard) we pay 9 cents per pound for iron/steel. More for electric motors so looking at that stuff after you pull the good out and scrap the rest you'd be ahead.

Haven't gotten to the cabinets yet to even see how they're attached to the walls :willy_nil

There's just an overwhelming number of little boxes, bottles, jars, and cans full of hardware. This guy saved the bottles from every prescription he got in his entire life and they're all full of stuff.

The potential value vs dollars spent, I wouldn't get killed. It'll be a metric FUCKton (****-tons are bigger than ***-tons) of work to resell all that stuff, but you definitely will make back your investment, dollars wise.

For instance, those blue drills look like Makitas, and I'd be interested in buying one off you.

Take out what you want and put the rest back on CL. Price it right and I guarantee you will get it sold within an hour.

Here's a few more items from my haul.

It took me a total of 20 hours to pack, load, and unload everything.

It also cost me an extra $100 to get my 9 year old son to help me for the day!

12 Foot workbench and some storage cabinets. This thing is so heavy that I couldn't stand it up off of the dollies, I had to screw a ring to it and hoist it upright with a come-along.

Gonna use this to store my air tools and compressor accessories. It's a little dented up, but very usable.

I haven't even begun sorting through the nails etc, but I did find about 100 lbs of nice cut steel nails in a few sizes along with about 10 lbs of copper roofing nails.
