Serious question:
Anyone wanna hit their Exceed knife with a flint and see if the sparks are bushcraft worthy?
:bounce:

another question: anyone wanna try to figure out if it's actually Ti?

i don't have mine yet.

assuming a magnet doesn't stick to it, could it be Al?

i'm not experienced in doing spark tests, and besides, i don't know if there's an inconspicuous spot to hit it with a grinder that also won't affect its function.

when i get mine, i plan to look at its density for fun (measure volume via water displacement and then weigh it).

I haven't got mine yet but I may test it depending on what I decide when I get it in hand. No promises though. I'll post here if I decide to.

Judging by the pics (which don't mean much) it doesn't look like AL. If anything different than Ti it would be SS by the way it looks.

The part that holds the blade is magnetic and seems to be some type of 400 series stainless. The rest of the knife is not magnetic and far harder than any aluminum I've ever encountered, so it's safe to say it's titanium.

It's pretty easy to distinguish aluminum from titanium visually (in your hand; not necessarily from an internet picture), if you know what they look like. The surface oxidation is very different.

Yeah... Scales are definitely titanium... I’ve taken it apart and can tell simply by the weight...

I would be willing to bet that Ali Express is not their supplier, if that is what you were insinuating. If one looks at the two pieces, there are quite a few differences that are readily apparent. They design and make a lot (most/all?) of their private label stuff, on their own CNC machines with American hands.

I didn't see anywhere that they claimed to make them or they're made in the US. I would think they're too cheap to be US made, anyway. The price isn't much more than several of the ones on Aliexpress.

If I were going to by one I'd buy theirs over dealing with Aliexpress, there's not that muh difference in the price and you're not dealing with someone in China and getting one whenever.

I got the Workpro from Amazon to start with to see how I would like like it.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JRNAQ2W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I do like them and they are better made and more substantial than I thought they would be. I bought them hoping I could put a hole in them for a key ring. I managed but the metal is hard and tough. I needed better drill bits than I had and I dulled two center drills besides dulling a couple bits. It didn't help my bits that when my wife saw them she wanted one for her key chain too, so I had to drill another.

got mine. thanks to Ryan for discovering and Skin for doing the alibaba search.

PXL-20210424-035924484.jpg

they're nice.
keeping one for myself, and the rest will be gifts.
no logo. all have pocket clips.

btw, i noticed the alibaba seller raised prices a bit lol.

i also sampled one of the mfgr's other products (see bottom of image). it's not as nice as the flipper. i'll probably just leave it in a drawer somewhere.

I saw the alibaba prices rose to the point that it didn’t seem worth the risk.

It’s definitely the Cadillac of box cutters, but I don’t see myself daily carrying a 1” blade. My edc knives are 3 to 31/4”.

I like utility knives and I would be lost without a slide out or fixed blade in my tool pouch.

That said it's not what I want in my pocket. I like the strength of a regular folding knife. I buy cheap ones with about a 3" blade. I keep them moderately sharp and don't get to upset when I loose one every couple years.

I have tried several, maybe 6 or 8, razors as EDC. The Gerbers fit the bill for a while. Nothing but positive things to say about them based on effectiveness and price. The Milwaukee knives are a flawed design in my view. I wanted to like it. When using the Milwaukee hard the blade will pull out. The blade retainer isn't strong enough. When cutting into cardboard boxes, not the lightweight Amazon boxes, but a television box or similar the blade holder isn't strong enough. My lack of trust in it means it is the only razor here that I won't keep a blade in.

Switched to a Kershaw automatic knife for EDC instead a handful of years back. Never looked back.

This is my type of utility knife, THIN and light, mated with a carbide blade I would carry this. Will have to wait awhile, strapped for cash for now. Can not see this ever touching Sheetrock. Thanks for posting this Ryan.

Screw it, I can't wait, put it on the CC , ordered from amazon

Man, I'm still waiting for mine. Ordered Mar 30th from aliexpress, it's been stuck in limbo since May 4th. 😔 I actually totally forgot about it until this thread popped back up.

My EDC for work is a well-used Kobalt folding utility knife because I regularly need something with some heft to it. But for an all-around EDC blade it's hard to beat Gerber's EAB and EAB Lite. I have one of each and they're absolutely a great compact carry.

I've been carrying one of these for year. I've got about four of them. When I lose one in the couch at nap time, I can always get to a backup.
I tried a Milwaukee, but it just doesn't work for me.

Helpful hint, next time you try drilling one get a blowgun and blast the hole you're drilling to keep it cool. You'll drill through better and won't wipe out your drill bits quite so fast.

"check out Gil-Tek RUK for a very low profile EDC utility blade holder."

Looks nice but the grip is too close to the blade, if you slip forward that blade is going down to the bone or worse .

As to the Exceed Designs …..

I do not like fat, large or heavy items in my pockets, the knife is perfect. Do not expect to use this on sheetrock or for cutting up 200 boxes, but in a pinch this knife will do anything I need it for. Blade is tight and there is little chance of one's hand slipping down to the blade for a nasty cut. Still need to get a carbide blade and sharpen it my diamond wheel.

Unable to bring myself to spend $60 - $100 on a utility knife (Exceed Designs or Gil-Tek RUK Ti), I did find it irresistible to not procure a Chinese made stainless steel liner lock utility knife. Enter the MFIROZ (whatever that is...) Utility Knife for a whopping $7.49!
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08PC7621C/?tag=atomicindus08-20 MFIROZ Box.jpgMFIROZL.jpgMFIROZRT.jpg

I like the Milwaukee Fastback, but find it too thick to want it in my pocket all the time. Complaints I have with the MFIROZ are: The blade isn't held as tight as the Fastback, so it's a bit loose and sloppy, I would prefer that it had some jimping, especially on the top side for better grip and finally, the thumbstud is kind of cheesy. Oh, and be careful when you open the box - there were ten loose utility blades inside with the knife!

The MFIROZ isn't nearly as slick as the Exceed Designs Ti utility knife, but then again, it's only about 1/8th of the price, so shortcomings are easily accepted.

My first Exceed Design was lost on the 4th of July due to it riding up and out of my Blue Jeans pocket, likely buried in 4 inches of mud.
Purchased another, a newer version, which has a new stronger pocket clip; this new clip keeps the knife securely in the outside corner of the front pocket. New knife has multiple small changes, clip being the most notable, and comes with extra hardware. Same super tight tolerances as before, nothing moves/gives unless it is supposed to.

V2 .....

i still like mine. btw, the lanyard holder makes a pretty decent bottle opener if you know how to open bottles with bic lighters or similar objects.

one of mine developed a problem where the lock would not engage. with the knife opened, even if you pushed on the lock to try to engage it, it would no longer slip under/over like it's supposed to. reading amazon reviews, i think others experience this as well.

i started to disassemble mine, and as soon as i loosened the main pivot joint (which is the largest looking fastener on the whole knife, you can't miss it), the lock snapped into position. i tightened the main pivot joint back up, and that was that. back in business. :dunno:

nice. doesn't seem like their amazon page has updated info or pics. not sure why.
at the very least, i'm glad that the pocket clip has been reworked. the pocket clip is my least favorite part of the tool. frankly, it's ****. i removed mine and rebent it in a couple of spots with two 150mm pliers wrenches to make the clip tension stronger and to make the protruding tip stick out farther because it was getting caught on thicker pants material when trying to clip it to my pocket. this helped some, but it still leaves a lot to be desired. for comparison, i think zebralight sc64 series flashlights have the best pocket clips i've used (which i also EDC).

i wonder if you'll be able to get the new version on alibaba.

How would you get it as a "freebee"?
I purchase a lot of items from amazon. They give me a 5% credit each month. It adds up when you buy 1,000 items a year. I target my "freebies" towards items I would never spend actual money on. I consider the freebees a gift for being a loyal customer.

This last month I used my freebees to get something special for the MRS... Happy Wife... Happy Life...

Spotted this one on reddit. Doesn't look like a very safe way to secure the blade. Fun design though.

Use caution in the States with that type of knife. It's classified as a "Butterfly Knife" and could get you a free ride to the local police station. It's not illegal everywhere... but... use caution.

Some of these are really cool looking, but which one are you least likely to accidentally slice yourself with? When opening it up. Flashing razors around makes me a bit nervous as I cut myself real good one time with one back in teen years working at walmart.

A few months back, I wrote about my struggles finding something to replace my Ma...
The ASIN might be the same but the product version has been upgraded to V3.
Very difficult to get my hands on it from outside of the US.
I will admit that i am a sucker for utility knives, my most expensive one being The Utilizer 2.0, made in USA by Spectrum.

On my keychain (=100% EDC), i enjoy the initial production version of the Quark Tool very much. I reviewed it on the other forum.

Something that you don't have to make awkward movements with to open. Sliders are usually a good bet. I like Olfa and try to avoid flip open stuff.

A key is to always get the blade retracted when you aren't actively cutting.

Looks like Exceed raised the price to $80.
Those that purchased one, any updates on how they are holding up?

If you use them hard every single day, they are good for about a year before the action gets sloppy... still usable, just not as satisfying to use.

irreversible process or something which could be fixed by disassembly maintenance?

You could probably take it apart, clean it, and get it decent again... To be honest, I haven't messed with it much as I've been wearing this thing out:

It's made in China as well... and wayyy over priced, but it's burly as hell and is holding up well.

Has anyone jumped on the Ti Utility Knife?

For keychain use, my hunt is over. But re folding utility knife, i'm open to new better models than The Utilizer 2.0 or else. Last week this kickstarter kicked off, drew 500 subs on the very first day, then severely slacked off. There's still some time to hop on the wagon, i'm on the fence, not 100% sure if i should fork out that much again for a titanium razor knife.

Anybody finds it enticing? Could be THE best, i dunno you tell me:
