Electric Hoist Control Switch Help

So I received my electric hoist (Northern Tool brand) and opened up the control pendant and motor box to see how it worked. As best as I can tell, it is a single phase induction motor with some kind of momentary switch for control the rotation.

Above is a picture of the back side of the switch with the up/down buttons on it. The red switch is an emergency stop which cuts power going through the switch. From the switch's perspective, pushing the up button connects pin 1 to pin 5, and pushing the down button connects pin 1 to pins 2 and 6. You can see that pins 3/4 and 6 are always connected with the design.

I've not been able to locate a schematic for the hoist or the JDNN LA137 switch. That said, From what I can see pins 5 and 6 go to the motor and these are what controls the direction. Pin 1 is where the 120V comes in from the plug. The neutral is wired directly to the motor.

I would like to source another momentary type switch that I can put on a wall plate to provide additional control to the hoist instead of only using the pendant. Would anyone be able to provide some insight as to where I could find such a switch or to how this hoist's control might work?

Thanks.

Do a search for a "MOMENTARY ON OFF ON DPDT SWITCH". I added another control to my attic hoist using a Momentary DPDT switch. I added a junction box at the hoist and cut the cord to the existing control and tapped in a second control.

I'd suggest a new thread, some images (both external and internal) and you may get answers.

I'd try for some Allen Bradley 800T (30mm) momentary pushbuttons and a 2TZ junction box (2 holes) or a 3TZ if you want the Estop. Buy these parts used from Ebay or PLCcenter, or equivalents from Automation Direct, new.

The problem you will have with these parts is they are not mechanically interlocked. In other words, the up and down could be pressed at the same time. Not 100% sure what happens in a single phase world but in a 3phase world this is equivalent to "crossing the streams" in the original Ghostbusters movie.

Edit: adding...typically this would be done by a set of reversing contactors which do have the interlock done electrically via normally-closed auxiliary contacts. Pic example to throw darts at...

I forgot about this thread. Thanks for the suggestion matt. I had thought about just building something. I work in control systems and we build motor control panels as well as many others so I can get the allen bradley stuff pretty easily. I was mostly just curious if there was a ready made switch that I could use and put flush in a wall box with a plate.
