Electrical in shop 240 conduit

Hello all,
Need some friendly advice here. Currently, I have a 5 hp Air Compressor in route, so I am gathering stuff for the electrical. The breaker box is in sight only 20ft away. The idea was to throw in either a 30amp/40amp breaker and 10/8 gauge wiring for the single phase. I'll know more once I read the motor.

Anyways, running 3/4 PVC from the Box, but can't decide if I should put a disconnect near the Compressor, or just use a gang for a junction. How do you have your electrical set up by compressor, and would you make any changes to how you have previously done it?

If its a true 5HP motor, it will need to be hardwired with #10 THWN or #8/2 NM-b

Dont need a disconnect since panel is within 50’ unless its not within sight of the compressor

Happy with my current set-up. It runs in 3/4 EMT to the starter on the wall above and behind the compressor and in FMC from there to the terminal box. I do not have nor feel I need a separate disconnect as the circuit breaker serves that role. I do have a control switch that breaks the starter so we leave the circuit hot and just kill the control when it's not in use.

When I wire 5hp motor it's normally #10 on conduit, 50A breaker. Might need a local disconnect if the panel isn't close.

I like that idea, eliminates going into the panel every time

Another option is to install a 240v 50A receptacle in for your disconnect, that was if you need to move it just unplug

Try - ME 3100R6W IP67 is 250v 100A 5hp, this is a little pricey but I would like to move it when needed.

where did u find the HP rating? Leviton doesnt list it
