I need to get another crane soon, my old one is still busted and I needed a second one anyway. So which should I go for? Is the 2 ton model significantly stronger than the 1 ton ? Are there any coupons available for the 2 ton model ?

Look at the boom length. Smaller cranes don't extend far enough to be useful, and may not have enough lift arc to get something high enough to slip it in a truck bed.

Get the bigger lift.

I've seen coupons for $179 for the 2ton. $99 for the 1 ton. Check the HF coupon thread.

Hemmings has the 1ton $99 coupon.

I just picked up the 2 ton. Its on sale for 199, used a 25% off coupon, so 150 out the door. It doesnt really take up any more space than the 1 ton, so I didnt even consider the 1 ton.

Not sure how you got away with that one since the 25% coupon excludes those very lifts. You got a good sales clerk indeed.

Go for the 2T if space/clearance allows. It folds up into a 32" x32" footprint, but the legs need 6" height for clearance.

I'd say get the 2 ton. Heavier duty=lasts longer.
Also with the bigger one you'll basically be able to rest assured that you're not near the limit, at least with light duty and medium duty vehicles.

I got the 2 ton as well with the 25% off as well. There is not an exclusion on the lifts...

I agree; at that price, the 2 ton is the true winner... The 2 ton rating is with the boom all the way retracted.. Fully extended; it is rated for 1000 pounds...
I really wouldn't want less than that if working on a full sized vehicle.. That extra $51 for the better crane is money well spent.

No question about it, go with the 2 ton model...and make sure you get the folding version.

Don't even consider the 1 ton. There are 2 things to keep in mind:

1. The weight capacity. You don't want to have any concerns when you've got a big block and trans at full extension.

2. The boom extension length. On some cars even the 2 ton extension isn't really long enough. Like my buddy's 1970 Pontiac Grand Prix.

In my area the HF stores won't accept a 20% or 25% off coupons on top of "Super sale" items.

Don't bother with the one ton hoist. It's useless as man *****, the boom length as everybody has mentioned is too short to reach most engines center points and with the boom fully extended it only lifts 500 lbs. I say again......useless as man *****.

Okay cool. The Excalibur crane I have has been long enough for everything I ever needed. I never considered that the 1tons would be shorter.
