Engineered Slab in BC - Help!
Hello there. Long time lurker, first time poster. I am in North East BC and am about to build my own garage. My father and I are working together trying to build myself a 28' deep by 26' wide garage on a heated floating slab with thickened edges 16"x16" but to no avail. The building inspector will not budge and says I must get engineered drawings. He referred me to an engineering company in a neighboring town that has quoted me $5000 for said drawings. The firm is using the same specs that my father has requested and that he has used on a previous garage.
Can anyone help me with somewhere that I can source drawings for less than $5k? This is a huge additional cost. Is $5k average cost to have an engineer design your slab? I have found floatingslabs.com that sells drawings for $300 but are only licensed in Ont, Sask and Alberta. Or maybe it is possible for somebody to sell me a copy of their engineered stamped drawings for the slab?
If I can't find a cheaper workaround I may be forced to build a 24'x24' but man I don't want to give up the extra space.
Any help or recommendations from you fine experienced garage enthusiasts is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Flow
