Engineered Slab in BC - Help!

Hello there. Long time lurker, first time poster. I am in North East BC and am about to build my own garage. My father and I are working together trying to build myself a 28' deep by 26' wide garage on a heated floating slab with thickened edges 16"x16" but to no avail. The building inspector will not budge and says I must get engineered drawings. He referred me to an engineering company in a neighboring town that has quoted me $5000 for said drawings. The firm is using the same specs that my father has requested and that he has used on a previous garage.

Can anyone help me with somewhere that I can source drawings for less than $5k? This is a huge additional cost. Is $5k average cost to have an engineer design your slab? I have found floatingslabs.com that sells drawings for $300 but are only licensed in Ont, Sask and Alberta. Or maybe it is possible for somebody to sell me a copy of their engineered stamped drawings for the slab?

If I can't find a cheaper workaround I may be forced to build a 24'x24' but man I don't want to give up the extra space.

Any help or recommendations from you fine experienced garage enthusiasts is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Flow

Are there other engineers in your area you can contact for estimates? I know mine (Engineered drawing) is for my address only because it is for my specific soil and building. I don't know if it is also the case for your country as well.

Did the building inspector say engineered drawings for the concrete? I'm close to you, in Central BC. PG to be exact. Are you allowed a floating slab that large? I would have thought that you would need footings and foundation walls. That is what I am doing on a 34x60 however I am working with an architect for the concrete and drawings etc. The 16 ft walls are being engineered. I've sent you a PM.

Not in my immediate area. I live in a small town. Already dealing with engineering company in the neighboring town. I didn't realize the drawings were site specific. I guess I'll have to try and contact another company for a 2nd opinion. I just thought that the $5k was a little much. Thanks for the info.

Oh, nice I have been reading up on some of PG's requirements to compare to mine, seems similar. I am in Fort Nelson. Yes it sounds like I am allowed a floating slab that large but it requires thickened edges and engineering once over 592sq/ft. I have read that in the code myself. The inspector did say that there are more requirements if I had of wanted 12 foot walls. Currently I am proposing 10 foot walls.

I'll check my PM's thanks
