I was hoping to lay down my epoxy-coat this past weekend, but that didn't happen. This floor is harder to get clean than I expected.

What is the strongest degreaser I can use to try to get some of the oil spots up from a non sealed concrete floor? So far I've used a few gallons of full strength Purple Power, but water is still beading on the oil spots. I sure hope I didn't just waste $1000 on Epoxy-Coat that I can't use.

Someone suggested baking soda, let that sit, then vinegar poured on top of the baking soda, than scrub with a powder laundry detergent?

Call me at the office if you can't get those spots clean.

Is it okay to use Epoxy-Coat over a garage floor that was already coated with another type of Epoxy coating? I'm not 100% sure, but I think it was done with a 2-part epoxy made by 3M. It's still in good shape, but there are a few small areas where the bare concrete is visible because of chipping due to dropped tools/equipment. We want to recoat the entire thing again, but we're not sure if we can just coat over the old coat though...

You should be able to go over the old coating if its adhering well. Call me at the office and we can talk specifics about your floor.

I'll give the acetone a shot. Tomd, I thought the diamond grind was mainly to get off any old sealer? My floor is about 3 years old, and was never sealed.

Diamond grinding will remove old sealer, but it is also the preferred method of profiling the concrete. If your concrete is heavily contaminated this may be the way to go for you.

I just finished prepping my floor, and will give it all day tomorrow to dry then apply my Epoxy-Coat Friday and clear on Saturday.

I have a few questions though about applying the epoxy-coat. The video shows it being evenly spread with a squeegee, but the squeegees I received are hand held only and there is no way to attach a pole to assist in the spreading. Am I supposed to spread 1000 sq ft while kneeling or can it be rolled on and not use the squeegees?

Also, after mixing a portion of the epoxy-coat (no more than can be applied in 15 minutes per the video) and dumping the mixture onto the concrete, wont the remaining epoxy harden in the bucket making it impossible to mix another batch? And how fast will the epoxy harden on the roller cover? Should I use a new bucket and new roller cover with each mixed batch?

There is no way to attach the squeegees I received to a pole, unless I use duct tape, As for my other questions, I think I found the answer. The epoxy doesn't set up anywhere near as quickly as I thought it would. I did a few sections yesterday. One area where my compressor sits, so I could put it back in place today, and around the anchor bolts for my lift. Even after about 8 hours, it was still tacky, and today it's completely set, so I'm guessing there is no problem in mixing all batches in the same bucket, as long as it doesn't take more than a couple of hours to do the entire floor, which I hope it doesn't

Here is the squeegee I received

Luckily I thought ahead and bought a good squeegee at Home Depot (the one in the kit snapped in half 2 minutes into using it) and I just finished my floor about 10 minutes ago. Took two of us a little over two hours to do a little under 1000 sq ft. . Now tomorrow I'll apply the clear coat and Sunday I can get my Chevelle out of this damn cold and snow and back into the heated garage :)

I have about a pint of epoxy-coat left, so hopefully later I can get the lip of the floor at the garage doors, and a few wet spots where the snow was blowing in past the doors

That's the squegee I recv'd also (something about production difficulties/had to send a substitute/etc). It looked to flimsy so I bought another one, taped it to my extension pole and it worked fine. Kinda disappointing when you don't get what you paid for. (That said, my EC worked nicely, customer support was great - needed because Lowes lost my order). I love the look and get LOTS of compliments.

Hi there, anyone know if this product is available at Lowe's in Canada? - sounds like the product I am looking for...
I will have to check if Lowe's in Canada can special order our product. We can always figure something out. Call me at the office.

Getting ready to start my Clear coat. It's been about 18 hours, so I should be good. Looking over the floor, I see a few spots that could use more of the colored flakes. Does anyone know if it would cause any problems putting them on the clear? I'll try to call Christine later if no one knows for sure

I also noticed where it says 18 hours for foot traffic and 24 for heavier traffic, but also read where you should wait a couple days before driving on it? I was hoping to get my car back in the garage tomorrow night. That would be well over the 24 hours period, but should I wait until Monday?

The longer you wait the harder it gets. I waited a week, probably overkill but wanted to be sure.side

I think you may be right. I just checked my clear coat (which I did about 22 hours ago, and it's still tacky. I was hoping to move all of the little stuff back in today, but I guess that's not going to happen. My biggest concern now is that those two tiny bags of aluminum oxide will be enough to make my floor non slip

My floor looks good, but it is very slippery (when wet) in a few spots. Is it possible to add clear coat to these spots and throw down some additional aluminum oxide? I'm kind of surprised a full kit only comes with that one tiny bag. Also, will using a floor squeegee to remove water cause the anti-slip aluminum oxide to wear out faster?

I just used about 1/4 of the bag of aluminum oxide for each kit on my floor and it doesn't have any spots that are slippery when wet. What is provided is plenty to make the floor no skid if you broadcast it well. Still cleans easily with a squeegee, but it's probably going to shorten the life of the squeegee.

I'd like to know if I can add more clear to the slippery spots, and throw down more aluminum oxide, because for me, the two tiny 1 lb bags weren't enough to do 1000 sq ft

We give 1/2 lb in each kit, that should be more than plenty to make the floor non-skid. (More than OSHA rating). You can reapply some clear in areas that you want to add more non skid. Call me I can hook you up.

Any chance Hadley, MA is one of them? Small market, brand new Lowes, prolly not, but please LMK. I've got 2500 sft garage, plus a 2.5 car garage, plus commercial buildings so I might just drain the local store out of your stock at some point.

Hi All,
Just wanted to finally share some really good news, Lowe's is taking us on as a vendor. We are starting in 160 stores across the country. Limited colors to be stocked at first. The first shipments rolled out yesterday. They should be in stores in about a week!
This is huge for our company, and we are all very excited about it. Hopefully we will get an order in the next month or so for another 600 stores (I have heard such rumors). We have been working our butts off to get this rolling.
If I have been slow to respond to anyone here, this is why, this project has been alot of work.
If anyone would like info about a store that may be near them stocking our product feel free to PM me and I will check it for you.

WOOHOO!!
anything in central North Carolina?

Congratulations! Epoxy Coat is a great product. I put down 1550 sq ft last week and I have received many compliments on the quality of the finish. This should be a great product for Lowes and I would think it should sell very well. Good Luck

Thanks I'll get some pics tomorrow of the area. It's just some minor scuffing from moving work benches & ladders around while finishing up the build inside. Thanks!

Christine,

This is James. I spoke with you on the phone a few days ago and we had difficulty trying to get my store to speacial order it here in AL. You told me to call you the next day. I just decided to go the the Ft. Walton Beach FL store and pick up 3 kits. It was only about 2 hours from me. Hope to put it down soon.

I live near Tampa, FL and I'm a little confused here. I see the comments and links above talking about Lowe's having having Epoxy-Coat for $194. When I go to their website I see the same size kits for $340 - $440. Is it a regional thing? How could I be seeing it for twice the price?

Do they have Epoxy-Coat at Lowe's in the Tampa area? If so, I have not seen it.

I was wondering what happened to you! Glad you could get what you wanted reasonably close. That was quite the project speaking to the store you were at.

I just noticed that there are a few different prices on the 3 gallon kits Lowe's website, what is the difference. I bought the one that is listed at $194. It was the only choice in the store.

http://www.lowes.com/pd_16958-21374...RL=/pl__0__s?Ntt=epoxy+coat&page=2&facetInfo=

http://www.lowes.com/pd_373247-2137...RL=/pl__0__s?Ntt=epoxy+coat&page=1&facetInfo=

special order prices are a bit different (higher) the prices vary for the red and yellow colors.

I put down a Lowes/Rustoleum cheap *** epoxy floor 5 years ago and would like to recoat it now. I went to the Q&A section, but wanted someone to confirm what exactly I need to do to prep my floor. Will I have to rent a buffer with a 80 grit pad on it? Then use a cleaning solution on it?

Thanks in advance

Yeah... I had looked to see if any stores in MS were close to me before I had ever called your. Dunno why I didn't even think about stores in FL. Brain Fart. Anyhow.... My 30x40 has been been fully cleaned and prepped. The wife is actually outside now accellerating the dry time with a squeegee, leaf blower and box fan. Hoping tomorrow it will be dry for application. Little nervous about doing it though..
