Epoxy-coat mixing ratio

I need to mix a couple of smaller batches and their instructions rely on stir sticks that have marks on them to measure out the mix. Anyone know the correct mixing ratio and if it is by weight or volume? I would just ask them but thay are closed.

I looked into their product line a few months ago (got to keep up on the marketplace!) and my notes indicate that for their base epoxy "Mix 2 parts "resin" to 1 part "hardener" by volume"

For their polyurethane clear it looks to be 1:1.

That's what my notes show, other than some price stuff, but to be safe, you should look for verification on the product containers or their included instructions.

Can't you use the mix stick and back out the ratios? If they say fill to "X" with part A, and then the fill mark for part B is half the height of that for part A, the it would be 2:1. BTW since they sent a calibrated mix stick, and didn't send a scale, the ratios are likely in volume, and most mixing ratios, at least for consumer end users, are in volume, not weight.

If you're not positive 100% about the mixing ratios, you shouldn't mix 'em.

The mix stick marks dont work out to 2:1 but it could be due to the slight taper of the buckets. Most the epoxies I have worked with at work (CFRP) are by weight but like you said, those arent aimed at home users.

I suppose if the sides are at enough of an angle it might effect the ratios. How about filling the bucket up to the 2nd mark on the stick, then pouring out enough to bring the level down to mark 1, and measuring how much was poured out, then measuring how much remains?

I was oncall this weekend, I think I already spoke to you about this, the bucket is tapered. Let me know if you still need the measurements.
