Getting ready to Epoxy-coat my garage floor and have a few questons. Do you need the Application Spikes to do a two car garage? When you mix a batch do you need to clean everything before mixing the next batch? Or can you just keep mixing in the same bucket. Just tring to get the steps down before I start. Is the installation steps for the clear coat the same? Do you have to clean the Squeegee and stuff to reuse with the clear coat.

Sorry so many question, but I know my answers will be here

Thanks

Hi Robert,
The spikes are not necessary, but they are very helpful. You will not have to clean the bucket out after each batch. I would wipe off the mixing stick though.
The clear coat is the same product, mixed and applied the same way. Use a new bucket for the clear batches. Your clear kits should have tools in them, if for any reason they do not, I would just wipe the other one off and then use them. You will definately need a clean roller cover for the clearcoat.
Let me know if you need anythign else.

One additional question is the 1.5 LBS of flakes that come in the kit good for a medium look for a two car garage (411SF)?

I just laid my floor the other day and to answer you questions quickly from my limited but recent experience.

- You do not need to clean the bucket between batches, although of course you would need to use a clean bucket for the clear application.

- The spikes are not mandatory, but will make flaking the floor WAY easier. No matter how hard you throw those damn flakes there will be spots you just can't cover.

- I used the supplied 1.5lb bag of flakes and wish I had two bags in the end. If you have already ordered the product you can get flakes from Behr at Home Depot. I would just recommend mixing both bags together so sections do not look different.

Re: Epoxy coat completed w photos

I learned great things from this site when I was choosing my new garage flooring system. I went with Epoxy-Coat, Christine at Epoxy-Coat was great to work with answering all of my questions along with the way and getting my products to me.
I'd highly recommend Epoxy-Coat flooring. Their product and customer service are number one something you don’t find in most companies today.

1 Epoxy-Coat full-kit gray (Lowes)
1 Epoxy-Coat full-kit clear (on line)
3 Pounds of chips dark blue/white/gray (on line)
411 SF of great looking floor.

Christine I'm very impressed with the service and knowledge you provided me.

Thanks,
Robert

Nice floor - what caused you to use the clear coat. EC keeps telling me it is not recommended for residential garages.

I'm concerned because I use my garage for wrenching, not just for parking and I am think that without a CC I may be asking for trouble.

Mine is also a working shop and I just wanted the extra protection. With everything out of the shop now was the time to do it.
