Well I finally got sometime off work to do the DIY Epoxy-Coat System. I only have the base coat w/ flakes down now. The clear is going on tomorrow. It is only about 60 degrees out right now and 100% humidity. So we shall see how long it takes for the base to cure. I figure 21 hours should be enough. Any insight would be beneficial. The raised concrete parts will be color matched with the floor with latex paint.

Looks great. What color did you go with? Is it the taupe? My lappy is showing two different looking colors depending on the pic in the last set of pics.

The color is "Gray". The overhead lighting is playing hell on the camera.

Applying the clear in about an hour. 61 degrees out and 20 hours after the base was put down. The base is harder than wood pecker lips right now. Wish me luck.

You should call epoxy coat if you are planning on putting a top-coat on it. They have a window of 18-24 hours for that. I was advised by one of their techs to wait closer to 24 hours before putting the top coat on.

Clear is done. Super easy installation on the clear. It is so much glossier now. The clear really was a must. I'll have some pics up shortly.

anybody see this thread about epoxy-coat?

"Ok I used self leveler to fill all my cracks and holes, cleaned and epoxied my floor. It started chipping where I placed my floor jacks, and I have peeling. My neighbor used a stain and it looks as good as the day he applied it.
On a side note, I am very hard on my floor, he isnt. I will epoxy over what I have, but then put a clear coat over it next time.
Regardless I wish I hadnt put the paint chip decorations down. It looks cool but I think its gonna look crappy on when the floor gets re-done. Im guessing the Epoxy is a recoat every few years deal... I dont know about the "professional' grade stuff on speed channel. I just used the Epoxy-coat found in your big box stores."

made me nervous about using it,

I read that thread. The guy didn't use the actual Epoxy-Coat company stuff. If I recall it was rustoleum or quickcrete. I could be wrong though.

He doesn't mention the name of the kit only that he bought it at a store. Epoxy-Coat just recently started shipping to Lowes and only in limited stores across the country. I'm willing to bet he used a 1-part kit.

That is what I am going with. My neighbor was trying to tell me all the kits are the same. I hate to say it, but it is only a matter of time until he parks his car in the garage on his fresh quickcrete floor. Lol.

You are using one of the best DIY kits there is, coupled with great customer service. Your floor looks awesome.

With any epoxy coating, re-coats are only necessary if you are beating the **** out of it. The flakes are a "must have" as they will help to hide any inconsistencies in your workmanship and will help to hide any blemishes from use.

If you need to re-coat it, Christine will help you choose the right top-coats.

I mention this as I see some comments in this thread that are misleading and edging on libelous.

Thanks Legacy. I am confident in the product I applied. I'll actually have a comparison soon between epoxy-coat and Rock Solid as well soon. We will be doing my brother's garage in Rock Solid so we shall see.

All I can say is you can see the light bouncing off the floor onto the walls. Super happy. I just need to finish the raised concrete pieces once the floor is dry enough to walk on. The wife liked it and she is the hardest sale on the planet.

Wow, that clear really does set the floor off! I've got the standard Epoxy-Coat kit waiting to be installed but now I think I'm going to go ahead and get the clear

Thanks. I really was debating on the clear. Allot if mixed opinions on it. I'm happy I did it. "If" it yellows than atleast I can say I tried. This will be one of my last garage projects before I deploy again. So we'll see how it looks in 9 months from now with zero maintenance.

I used "U-Coat-It". I laid it down the first two days I owned my house. And it's blue. I'll post a picture later. I'm too lazy to get off my **** and take one right now.

Do clean up any spills right away. Your floor is protected, but it will still get dirty with old dried up fluids that will look like stains. You will have to take a scrub brush to it if you don't get it up right away, kinda like mine. Eh, I'm lazy.

I'm happy with it. It's a good conversation starter because nobody that comes over has ever seen a blue garage floor.

See the stains? That's what happens when you're lazy and don't clean them right away.

The light blue is the portion that is exposed to the elements when the garage door is closed.

I'm pretty sure some dish soap and a scrub brush will get it up. The stains aren't actually stains since they're not in the floor so much as dried on top of it.

Your floor looks great I'm looking at getting epoxy coat but am not sure about the clear. Does anyone know how the floor will hold up without it?

If you are talking about top coating your colored epoxy n chips..... yes it will embed your chips and add an extra coating to defend against scratching your base color coat. As far as the product in question, I'm sure one of the salesman on here will fill you in.

I'm new here but have been in epoxies and overlays for many years. I've noticed just a couple manufactures have control of this board and this seems to be a good fishing hole for them.

At present I teach and apply epoxies with Reflecter enhansor metallics, quartz embedded floors and of course the chip floors. There are options out there, don't think there isn't.

LOL I love these comments, I've had my Quickcrete kit down for 3 years on a floor that was covered in oil stains, I use the shop heavy, Its got some light scratches and stuff but has never flaked or peeled. and the portion outside the door that sees the weather , looks just as good as the day I rolled it on.I've evn done a light burnout on the other side and other than just scuffs it didn't hurt it.
I'm 99% sure its all about the prep and not so much the product.

Even when its dirty, It still shines.

Also In truth there is NO 1 part epoxy. You must have at least 2 parts to make a true epoxy. 1 part stuff is just a paint.

Sorry I have not chimed in as of yet, had emergency surgery last week, just getting back into the swing of things. If anyone has any questions about any of our products, please give me a call.
