Not sure where you live but you should do it all at once. If you can cover everyhting with a tarp outside or rent a POD and lock it up. I did my garage floor years ago and I rented a POD, cleared out everything, painted the walls and ceiling and then epoxied the floor. It took 3 days to fix the walls and paint, then 1 day to clean the floor (degreaser and pressure washer) and another to acid etch. The 3 days to apply 3 color coats and I put sprinkles on the last coat.

After that I left it empty for about 3 days and no cars for 2 weeks.

I used a waterbased 2 part epoxy. Lasted until we were flooded. Never had lift and I part a sports car in there that usually come back smoking hot.

I am looking to upgrate the coating this time around and find a non yellowing clear to top coat the epoxy and chips. I hope this will be the last time I ever do the floor.

Good luck.

Can't really clear out the whole garage at one time for this. Is it possible to do 1/4 at a time and have it match?

I did my floor 1/2 at a time. I just used that blue painters tape and some visqueen at a saw cut i have in the middle of my barn, came out fine.
although when i did the first half the spiked shoes were staring to cut threw the visqueen so when i did the second half i put some osb board down on top of the plastic.

Forget the pod, rent a U-haul, its cheaper. They expect to make money on the mileage, so they have a nice low daily rate.

I did my basement in two stages. Check out the link in my signature for more info and photos.

Basically, pick a place where a seam will look normal. A logical dividing point for me was exactly half. I used a string pulled tight to get a straight line and then used a permanent pen to make little marks all the way across the floor. Then I put down duct tape along the marks. Probably overkill but my line is perfectly straight, which still makes me smile when I think to look for it.

When I did the first half, I waited for the epoxy to tack up so it wouldn't run when I pulled the tape up and it left a very clean line. Don't wait to long or it wont come up at all. For the second half I just ran the tape down the existing line and did the same thing as before waiting for it to tack up. It turned out great.

I'm not sure about this. I just did my garage which can be seen on this thread.http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=189568. I rented a POD, or a competitors similar from Go Mini. It cost me about $240.00 for a 16 footer for 1 month. Given the time I needed to empty my garage, do the floor, which was a week including prep, empty the contents of the pod back into the garage after the floor was cured. I needed all of that month when you take weather into consideration. To rent a 17 foot Uhaul its $30 a day + mileage. Throwing the mileage out you would reach the $240.00 that it cost for the pod in 8 days. Good luck emptying your garage and getting your floor done in 8 days. Good idea. But i don't think its practical for this kind of project.

8 days? Must have been a huge garage.
3 days prep, 1 day primer, 1 day top coat, 1 day clear coat, 2 days cure before beginning to move the light stuff back in. check the link it is a standard 2 car garage.
