Hello everybody,

I am new to the journal but have been lurking in the back ground and really enjoy reading all of your posts.

I live in southern Illinois and am in the process of building a 50x50 workshop that will be used for auto restoration and wood working projects. I am just about at the point where I need to decide which epoxy product to put down on the floor. I seem to have it narrowed down to either Epoxy- Coat or Armorclade. Is there any advice and or direction that any of you can offer in choosing a reliable product.. (I am open to other manufactures as well)

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
The floor needs to cure for at least a month, do the moisture test as indicated on our instructions at www.armorcladepoxy.com. You can grind if you want, but we then strongly suggest using our primer as the floor will be very porous. We include in our kits an etching solution for prep which eliminates the need to grind.

As for the joints, most people just leave them, or fill with a color coordinated crack filler as if you fill and then coat and get slab movement, the coating on top of it will crack.

Thanks.

Grinding is the preferred method.. Etching won't detect and remove any surface weakness. Don't forget to look at our garage kits!

180 deg difference.
Nohr-S is a premium product designed for those who:
  • Don't want to mix A&B
  • Don't want to wait many hours between coats
  • Don't want to worry about a pot-life
  • Want a High Performance coating
  • Want fast return to service
  • Want an attractive gloss finish
  • Don't mind paying for the best

Epoxy is great too, just takes a little longer to apply.

Great post. Not all epoxy is the same, but in most cases on the forum you are dealing with quality materials and good customer service.

What makes epoxy more confusing is there are a lot of products out there that are virtually the same and private labeled by different people.

We have offer a full selection of coating products, and if you need some help, just give me a call.

The difference in many cases is the level of service you get when you need it and I am not talking pretty packaging tape. Choose people that know coatings because they install coatings or work closely with installers.

Thanks for all of the information guys it is truly appreciated... what I am hoping for now is some feedback from members of the forum that have used these products. It would be great to know how the products are holding up after a few years of wear and tear along with installation victories or tragedies that were experienced.

Thanks again for the feedback, I hope to be making a choice within the next week.

I have Epoxy-Coat for over a year now and I love it. I work on cars and it's extremely durable. However, I highly recommend Sherwin-William 1000HS because they're a major player in the commercial/industrial coating for a very very long time. I didn't know about it at beginning and I wished I did.

The pricing I was quoted was the same as Epoxy-Coat, if not a bit more, because their application method requires much more material for thinned-coat ("primer"), basecoat, and eurethane.

If I were to do it again, I wouldn't mess with ordering stuff online and just go straight to S-W, because it took too long and kinda messed up my schedule, IIRC.

Trey T,

This is exactly the type of input that I am looking for. Just to make sure that I am understanding you correctly, it seems that you are happy with the epoxy-coat except for the amount of time it took to receive the order, is that correct?

Yup, but that's just me though. Also as a first time epoxy installer, there was so much pressure of determining how much material is necessary to coat the thickness you want. I believe that is the critical concern as a DIY installer. Even after consulting with E-C folks, I was kinda nervous about it during application; however, it all worked out. For you and others, it might be different. You probably have a better handle on the project than I do.

Alternatively if you're to get it locally from your S-W, you can go back and get more if you run out (recoat time is up to 7days). That's one of the benefit of getting locally vs online.
