this is my first post here. i have been a member for a while but i have just been exploring. it has taken me alot longer to get to this point in my shop them i would have liked due to sickenss and such but it is getting there. i though that i would post pictures of the U-coat-it floor that i finished last weekend. it took alot longer to due but i think it is worth it. i have one last thing to do before it is finished. i want to put my company logo in the gray area and i will take pictures.

i have a 2 car attached so this is built to be just a shop not storage JUST A SHOP! (trying to get the wife to understand that) i did start to move things in temporaly because i need to finish a few other things before the snow flys. i will be working on it over the winter.

the first picture is at night on my cell phone. the rest are done during the day after i remembered that i did not have any good pictures of the floor before i started to fill it up. :confused:oops!

It might need an additional coat of clear if the stripes seem to have a profile, they can be damaged easily.

Really nice job, I bet your proud.

How did you do the stripes? I am assuming it is epoxy as well?
Did you mask the area and do the stripes. Inquiring minds would like to know.

sorry, i have never applied epoxy, but am contemplating doing my home garage.

Looks great.

thanks again. now it is on to the rest of the shop. the strips are done with vinyl. i put it on when the colors were still tacky. i did this so that the strips would bond to the color making it more durable. it is i found this out because i screwed up on one side and had to take it off. it came off in 1/4 inch pieces and it took about 45min to take 3 feet off so i could redo it.

That floor looks great! And the stripes add a very professional touch! I thought you masked that off at first ( I also thought you were crazy to do so), but see you used vinyl tape, good thinking.

Very nice. I would like more detailed info if you can provide it. What products you used and a detailed description of steps of how you did it.

floor looks very nice. great job!

that's exactly what I've been playing to do. 2 tone floor. did you do the outer rim first and then do the inner? what tape did you use? did the epoxy leak through a bit and you cover it under the vinyl strip?

thanks for the positive feed back. i am very happy with the floor and cant wait to have my company logo in it to finish it off. i have big plans for the rest of the shop but it might take a little longer then i thougt now that we have our first kid on the way but i will keep updating as i go.

to answer the questions:

i can answer both of these questions together.

i used u-coat-it for the whole floor. the reason was the colors they had a good product but the also had the colors i wanted.

first i masked off the dividing line with automotive paint tape so that i could do the blue. i did the base coat for the blue and let that dry the required time.

i then peeled the tape and redid it ove the blue and put the base coat for the gray down. i let that cure the required time and them peeled the tape. i found that the base coat did bleed a little. at the time that did not matter as i had always intended to do a pin stripe seperation to give the whole floor a finished look.

i them retaped on the gray section and did the color coat for the blue. and let tha "flash" and cure just long enought that i could walk on it and noe leave impressions. them peeled the tape, taped off the blue, did the gray color coat and spread the flake. the blue was cured enough that i was able to just pick up the pieces that landed on it then peeled the tape. i found that once the base coat was down and the tape was put down to tape of the diffrent colors that the epoxy did not bleed when the color coats went down.

i let the gray "flash" and while the blue was still a little tacky and the gray was just starting to get tacky i put down the pin stripe. once the two colors had cured and were ready to be clear coated the glue from the striping and the curing of the epoxy had bonded and i am not sure it i will ever get them off.:lol_hitti.

then i did the clear coat that went over the whole floor. i did most of the blue first leaving just enough to stand on so when i did the gray i could work my way to the spot that i left in the blue, do that spot and walk out of the shop. i did this because just in case some of the fake did not bond and got caught in the roller the did not wind up in the blue. i dont know if i need to do this but better safe then sorry.

hope this helps. if there are any more questions on how i did this please let me know and i would be happy to answer them.
